I mean, honestly. What good is going to come of a school putting down an applicant. My god…schools these days seem to have no manners.

It’s just Lville :D

@neatoburrito: haha!

I liked Westminister’s acceptance letter. It is personalized and I feel very special.

Concord’s rejection letter wasn’t horrid. In fact, it was actually quite sweet (well, as sweet as it could have been, considering it was a rejection letter haha). My interview was with the Dean of Admissions and in her rejection letter, she addressed some of the things we spoke about in our interview. (Such as my community service work, internships etc.) I thought that was nice… :)

SAS’s waitlist letter was very nice…it sounds like they REALLY want you in, but there’s just not enough space. But then I’ve always had very positive impressions on the school. When I think of “niceness in boarding school,” SAS just pops up in my head.

The biggest problem with the Lawreceville Letter:
it both untrue and intimidating.

Lawrenceville accepts student in part on the basis of wealth and social connections. They do not have anything close to need blind admissions-and have a reputation for giving preference to legacy students. Unless they equate “wealth” or legacy status, with “strength” as an academic candidate this statement is willfully untrue.

Saying this type of things to young student also cruel-and violate a position of authority and trust.

I’m amazed Princeton would maintain a relationship with a place with these kinds of practices given the history of their honor code.

Associating with Lawrenceville seems to be tolerating those that lie.

A truthful letter might be:
“We have more qualified appiciants than we can possible accept. We sometimes accept students with less academic potential than candidates we reject because the families of those we accept have a history of a relationship with Lawrenceville or because they can afford to pay full tuition. Our admissions process is not perfect-sometimes we can make mistakes that overlook potentially outstanding candidates.”

^ Sour grape aside, I don’t know what points you’re trying to make. The “truthful letter” is true for every other school, except Andover and SAS. Although I’m a Lawrentian, I can’t say I like the school’s wording in the rejection package. But frankly, that is just the admissions office; I don’t know why you’re generalizing the whole school, saying “Lawrenceville seems to be tolerating those that lie” based on a single rejection letter.

I remember in the orientation, a faculty member reminded all new students that we were NOT the most academically qualified candidates. We are well aware that not all of us are the best of the best.

NO THE THREAD IS OVER!!! I just spent half an hour reading all of them. I actually really liked Lawrenceville. I have yet to receive an acceptance or rejection letter, but I liked it. They were kind and they knew I would require FA with no legacy. I got a great impression of the place and it’s on the top of my list.

Hahahah PxAlaska I read through the whole thread as well! I just saw your comment and was relieved I’m not the only one stalking old threads xD We should definitely revive this, it would be so useful for 2013 applicants! :D

I’m just going to point out that for many of us, any sort of acceptance letter would make us happy.

As much as I hated what it had to say, Groton’s waitlist letter was pretty nice. It made it clear that there is a slim chance I will actually get there, but wasn’t mean.

Exeter had a video and then the real email came a few minutes later. Nice, fun touch: Maggie Hassan, the principal’s wife, is the NH governor and welcomes the acceptee to New Hampshire.

Hi- does anyone know what the Groton admission letter is like and what time it’s sent? I definitely won’t be getting any sleep, I’ll be guarding my computer like a maniac…

@Chinaspasky I went through that last year, and was waitlisted for second form. As far as I know, decisions are still posted on a portal on their website, 10:00 AM EST March 10. Good luck, and I know what we’ll both be doing at that time! :D

Just combed through this entire post. Someone should definitely revive it in March. It’ll be a great help for 2014 applicants.

Yeah I read it all last year when I applied. It was really good. At least I knew what was coming when I received that WL email/letter…

I think that now everyone is dying, waiting for M10 to come, this thread needs a BUMP

YES. I love this.

Well, Andover’s rejection last year was kind of cold, I mean, it was pretty much an automated email with the names different.
