Better Location for Engineering (Dorms)

Which dorms are closer for engineering classes? My friend said west is far away from all classes…Any opinions?

warren is 1-3 minutes away from college of engineering as well as CAS

I checked out West, and what I found was consistent with what has been said. from the engineering buildings.

Here’s what your judgment should be based on from a pro-con perspective:

Warren: (pro) , close proximity to Eng buildings, probably a great option socially what with there being a lot of freshmen since it’s your first year. It makes sense to start off in Warren, in the most comfortable place if you’re new to Boston, which is my situation.
(con) Subjective, but I didn’t like Warren as much. Claustrophobic feel in a general sort of way. There’s low clearance in the corridors, lighting’s glaring and not too great. Might just be me. Also, you can’t control your room’s heat. This is something that is a disproportionately big deal for me, a real deal-killer.

West: (pro) relatively distant from Eng buildings, much better food, appears more stylish and overall more clean, close to the FitRec, close to tennis courts.
(con) 15 minutes or so from campus. Remember that Boston is an all-season city, so I expect that when there’s snow, rain, ect. it’ll be less than ideal. It’s a long enough walk that you can’t sprint through it like it’s nothing. A 15 minute walk in good weather is a lot different than a 20 minute trek through a storm.

But the main downside of West is really overblown by posters. If you can consistently get up on time to go to class and not break down over the school year, I think it’s something that is compensated for by West’s pros.

Likewise, the FicRec isn’t that far from Warren. It’s really not a big deal to stroll over there.

Only take the close-to-FicRec quality seriously if you’re already disciplined and have a habit/routine to work out. If you don’t have that habit, I’d hazard a guess that there’s a good likelihood that you’ll drop off.

Can’t speak about the social atmosphere, but people have vouched for both in equal measure. I’m gonna go with West.
