Early Action for LMU notification was received today and my D was accepted for Theater Arts. That is one of two BAs amongst a lot of BFA apps and gives an LA option. And now…we wait til March! Hang in there everyone!
D accepted into LMU’s theatre program!!! @FourStars, both you and I can sleep a tiny bit better tonight? I almost started crying becuz this means she might stay in California closer to home!
Congrats @FourStars and @mychildsslave!! It is so great to have a yes! Enjoy it. It would be so neat if your kiddos ended up together. On to the crazy January - March ahead of us! But first enjoy the holiday break.
Congrats @mychildsslave and @FourStars – that is such great news!
Accepted into LMU theatre, received audition invites from Ucla, Pace, Fordham, BU, MMU, CMU, NYU, no word from USC, rejected by chapman. We’re on the west coast, so most of our auditions are regional. January and February will be crazy, exciting times!
Hi @CLDMom. Congrats on LMU theater. We are in a similar boat, except we are in NJ, so doing most stuff here, but MIGHT come out to see the LA area schools, especially since LMU was an acceptance. Still waiting to hear on Michigan and USC auditions, really hoping that works out!
So, my D got her Michigan audition slot. It turns out the e-mail was sent back in November! Thank goodness I called, they were extremely nice and resent the e-mail and told me the date of the audition over the phone. Lesson for all, if you have not heard, maybe call before these offices close for holiday break.
On that note, I called USC and CAN SHARE THEY SAID audition notices going out today 12/19.
@FourStars, what a relief!! I knew the notice went out in November! Sometimes these emails just aren’t reliable, remember how we didn’t receive the reminder on supplemental app from UCLA? Yikes! Best of luck on scheduling all these auditions and on USC. My D had no interest in applying there, not sure why. Keep us posted!
@FourStars When you called Michigan did you get a time slot? We are doing Michigan at Chicago unifieds and only have a notice to hold the whole day. I’m going to need to look and see if my D has an actual slot. Any info would be great! Thanks!
@ginaf1102 Hi! I actually left a message at Michigan and was pleasantly surprised to get a call back. She told me they would resend the e-mail (my daughters had gone missing, must have gone to Spam or been deleted?), and she said verbally the time slot. When I asked how long it was, she said that would come later, closer to the date. However, I got lucky, she said the time slot which was 9am. That was NOT contained in the e-mail, just as you described it was a Hold the Whole Day. I sure hope i heard correctly. She said 9am that day. We have a 2pm and a 6pm later that same day. Praying it all works out!
Thanksn@fourstars! We just received an audition invite to USC this afternoon, so keep an eye on your email. Good luck!
Also just got the USC audition invite! Final piece of the puzzle.
Awesome! Congrats FourStars!
I just found this thread… I was so frustrated in October when my S got heard back from Carnegie Mellon about his prescreen. All of the spots at Chicago Unifieds for Acting were filled. A friend whose D got a callback for CMU MT said there were lots of openings. – Only 25 total Acting slots for Chicago!
@STHmom Hello! Funny, you should mention CMU acting slots in Chicago. I noticed the Chicago slots filled fastest, in fact I warned a friend. There are actually 46 slots in Chicago to be precise. 11, 10, 15, 10 on Feb 5, 6, 7 and 8. Did you jump on the Waitlist? And let everyone on THIS board know that is what you are looking for, in case someone is rescheduling. It happens. Scheduling is sooo tough. I feel your pain!
I know CMU says differently, but when my D auditioned a couple years ago, we were there on a day with both MT and acting and it was fairly obvious that acting was 2nd fiddle. (they say acting is the focus…but not judging by the amount of time they spent with MT auditioners vs pushing through all the acting kids as fast as they could in order to ‘make time’ to spend with the MT kids).
@STHmom We were really frustrated by the lack of CMU acting spots in Chicago, too. At first I thought it was some sort of mistake. Odds of getting off the waitlist are probably slim - my S might audition on campus, but hate to add yet more travel costs and another weekend out of town.
CMU also routinely offers one or two acting slots to MT applicants, never the other way around.
Hello! Was anyone at CMU Acting auditions yesterday on campus? We drove 6 hours up and back and it was a very long two days, but it was a very positive experience. I will summarize for anyone going on campus. Suggested arrival was 11:45, for reg at 12 and info session at 12:30. Pretty organized. Both Don and Barbara spoke briefly and it was evident they wanted it to be a positive experience for everyone, not intimidating. They succeeded in that regard. My D was in the first group. I believe therefore that the sequence was based upon WHEN you submitted, just my take, can’t confirm that. My D was in Don’s room. She did her two monologues and he did ask for a third. The interview section was relaxed and no really unusual hard questions. After she finished, we were able to jump on the first “student tour” which they ran every 30 minutes. Our student tour guides were fabulous. So personable, direct and informative. For that reason, it is awesome to go on campus, but of course, that is just for information purposes, it does not change your audition experience. Feel free to engage if you were there, or have questions! BAL everyone!
Thanks for insights. CMU Acting is my son’s last audition - on campus 2/18. I appreciate your insight.
