BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@diamondntheruff congrats! There definitely is cross casting-the lead in the play they just did was an MT. My friend who goes there, auditioned as an MT, was accepted to acting, took voice lessons, got a dance minor, and this year switched to a design major! Also, acting majors are required to take Dance for a few semesters as per the course requirement online.

Waiting on USC too. I heard that if they sent a personalized “Save the Date” postcard that was an indication you are accepted. We got a generic Save the Date card about a month ago. Me and my husband are alumnus and that doesn’t guarantee spots anymore. Ugh this waiting. If the letters are mailed on the 22, I will probably get it the next day as we are in LA and it will be my birthday - hope it is a good one!

Hi all- Pace FTVC, NYU and USC. Anyone heard from them? Those are the last three my daughter is waiting to hear from. Any help is appreciated. I saw for Pace, I think it was, that a few calls have been made. Is there another thread where I can see that info? Thanks!!

@abcdeabcde, PACE FTVC is ongoing but not finished yet, USC mails their acceptance packages on March 22, and II think NYU/Tisch said in the auditions they said they mail on April 1, but not 100% positive.

It’s a YES for my D for The University of Oklahoma, Helmerich School of Drama! :slight_smile:

I confess I just snooped in my daughter’s portal. She got into DePaul after being put on the waitlist a week and a half ago! I’m thankful for the kid who declined their spot so quickly!

@FrankieHeckish - isn’t snooping part of our job? =D>
Congrats on DePaul!

Ugh!! I might have spoken to soon! There is a new acceptance but now I’m thinking it’s inviting her to attend DePaul even if she doesn’t get a spot in acting because it’s from the university and not the theatre department. I guess I was just so excited and reacted to soon! Oh well! We’ll still hope for a spot to open up!

@diamondntheruff and @FrankieHeckish - Congratulations!!!

@HopeinMT - unfortunately for the last two years -USC sends its invitation postcard at the same time as the acceptances. So I doubt the early Invitation will come out this year.

But I have a question about the USC - BA program. Do you know what they base acceptances on? My son applied for both the BFA and the BA, but didn’t do well at his BFA audition (zero Shakespeare training). Wondering if a bad BFA audition hurts the BA application.

@MomofJ5, @HopeinMT , @CLDMom what did your kids think of the USC audition? I am under the impression that the auditors were very neutral and professional. @MomofJ5 the BA is more GPA minded. And, whether feeling like it wasn’t the best audition hurts the overall application would be more based around how the rest of the audition went and if they see growth potential etc. It does seem that everyone we know that auditioned there left feeling very unsure of how it went. Auditors were very nice, but super professional and hard to read.

@frontrowmama - definitely nothing wrong with the auditors. My S only had one other audition that asked for Shakespeare- but in that other audition (UCLA) he wasn’t asked to do it (and ultimately was rejected). So USC was his first live Shakespeare audition and I think there were some forgotten words - not good. He said it was his worst ever audition (all him). However, his GPA is good and his test scores are high, so if they base it off the academics, he’d be ok I guess. If they look at audition- not so good. But it’s curious because the BA application doesn’t even have to audition. So it will be interesting to see if applying for the BFA and having a bad audition hurts the BA odds. Really want to know all the decisions already.

The USC audition did seem very neutral and professional. Not a lot of feedback from the auditor, but trying not to read much into that, based on the wisdom of this page.

@MomofJ5 Ditto! I do think that applying to both BFA and BA demonstrates strong interest and I bet the bulk of the BA candidates come from the same pool of duel applicants. It is a strong BA program. I liked how the Dean described the difference in the two programs. BFA is set plan with no flexibility while the BA is more like a buffet of options:) Good luck and can’t wait to be done with this all!

The USC audition was my son’s first. It was hard for him to get any idea how he did. Very professional and neutral. I wanted him to apply for the BFA so he could audition as his grades are mediocre and I wanted him to show work. I figured maybe if he is not BFA material then he has a chance for the BA. His friend attends in the BA and minors in math. He loves the program.
My son didn’t think he did well for BU and got in. He thought he did great for OU and Elon and got rejected. Who the heck knows?! This process is nuts.
I love the school. I would love him to be only an hour away. And we have a house full of USC stuff so he would be ready. But as I am seeing how this process goes I am not feeling very lucky.

Total newbie question: how do you PM another member? I don’t see a “New Message” option in my inbox nor do I see “Message” buttons on the user profile of the member I’d like to reach out to. TIA!

It’s possible that the member that you want to message @diamondntheruff may not have enough posts to be able to PM. If you click on the username and don’t see a message button, that’s probably why.

Thank you @alwaysamom. I also do not have many posts so that may be keeping me from initiating messages. I have received PMs but I don’t see that I have any ability to initiate a PM. Mystery solved [probably]!

@diamondntheruff you need to have 10 posts to be able to PM

@Boilermom @alwaysamom A moderator must be watching
lol. I was already over the 10 post mark but I just got a notification that I was upgraded to a junior member and now I have a “New Message” option. Many thanks to whoever that was!

Re: USC, for BFA and BA Acting (many people seem to apply for both), we also found the audition to be very professional without a lot of discussion or direction. Perfectly nice, but perfectly hard to read anything into. It is the one I know least about in terms of who gets in, all info welcome as we approach decision day.
