My S is still waiting for Pace BFA Acting and BA Int’l Acting Ensemble AND New School. Does anyone know if all of their acceptances have been done?
@smeaglemom Still waiting here for Pace FTVC – no acceptance call, no rejection letter (as of today).
@bfa2018 Thank you!
@emf1959 Ugh - i just found the below on Emerson portal & it’s even worse than I realized, unless I’m reading too much into the “tentative”/“final verified” language. Um, May?? And, um, approximately WHEN in April?
I completely agree with you on the painfully slow wait for FA info from some of these schools. I wonder if it's the case that they just have enough seriously wealthy families applying that they don't really care that much about stringing other people along?
Regular Decision accepted students who file both their FAFSA and CSS/Financial Aid Profile by February 1, 2018 will be able to view their tentative financial aid award in the Application Portal in April 2018. Final verified financial aid awards will be viewable in the Portal in May 2018, pending completion of any requested supplementary documentation by April 2, 2018. Learn more by visiting the Office of Financial Aid website.
@katew529 I am not sure I understand what they mean!!
So have all the SUNY calls been made? No call is a “no” then?
Any thoughts about LMU versus Marymount Manhattan for acting? Obviously very different programs, but is the quality of LMU’s BA program competitive with that of the other schools being discussed? Are there sufficient performance oppportunities at Marymount? Still waiting on results from several other BFA programs, but interested in comparing these two, if anyone has a perspective to share.
@mrsborle I too would love an answer to this. ?
@mrsborle I called today and was told that calls will be made all throughout this week.
@katew529 That is ridiculous. Definitely worth a phone call.
Regarding SUNY Purchase, when we look at my daughter’s portal, it still doesn’t have the audition marked as “received.” I remember that the same thing happened with Montclair: I kept checking every day, and it would say that it wasn’t received, and then one morning when I checked, the audition WAS marked “received,” and later that day my daughter got an email telling her to check her portal, and the decision letter was there.
So, since the same thing is happening with SUNY Purchase, and all of us who called SUNY Purchase were told that calls are going out all this week, I theorize that maybe the theater department gave the admissions Department ALL the audition results at once. In other words, maybe they didn’t say “here’s a stack of acceptances and here’s a stack of rejections.” Maybe they just gave them everything, so the admissions department is going through each person’s result one by one and processing them, and if the person got an acceptance, they call that person and then go on to the next one.
Now, I don’t KNOW for sure that that’s the case, it’s just a theory! But given that they said that calls are going out all this week, and my daughter’s portal still says the audition was not received, I think it makes sense.
@CLDMom I have never heard one negative about LMU ever! The location is superior if your child wants LA and those connections. That alone is huge. MMC we are looking at as well. It is a larger group of kids, so casting can be an issue if that is a top concern. MMC has great training and a great NYC location. Is your child hoping to work on stage or in the film/TV industry?
That IS what’s happening. I confirmed it with the representative today, AND a student who has already been accepted. I believe only a handful of calls have gone out so far.
I called Purchase and was told that my daughters admission to the theatre BA track (she’s not interested) was in no way a redirect from BFA and that the departments are separate and that it was just reminder (she was admitted some time back). Thank you @bfahopeful for clarifying that as well!! You were of course correct :).
Also he said they were “sorting out” admittance to the bfa and were in the process…
So Purchase waiters like myself …THERE IS STILL HOPE FOR US ALL!
Though I will not hold my breath and I am over prepared for the worst.
It is hard reading posts like 'this school was a walk in. Is it any good because I got accepted" and such when it’s a top choice for your kid.
At least I know others here understand. Grateful for that!! Hang in- Hang on everyone !
@frontrowmama - Thanks for your feedback! We live on the West coast, so LMU is especially attractive from that perspective as well. My S is interested in Film/TV more than live theatre, to the extent that anyone really controls one’s destiny in this business :-), so the LA location is also attractive for that reason. Also waiting (as are many others) on PACE for FTVC and USC, but given that there is still some time to pass, it’s always good to contemplate one’s current offers. When you refer to a “larger group of kids” and casting, are you referring to LMU or MMC?
@CLDMom I visited LMU with my son a couple weeks ago, and I was very impressed with the culture, the campus, the theatre faculty we met and the facilities which are right in the center of the campus. Also, when my son auditioned for UCLA the auditor told him that he also taught at LMU. My S is fortunate to have some good choices. Nonetheless, he is still anxious to hear from LMU. He really wants to be in NY or LA. That, together with other attributes, make LMU an attractive possibility. Talk with @marg928 because she has a daughter there. I chatted with her and she was very positive on the program.
Thanks @VA Skydog!
@CLDMom MMC has an Acting group of 45. So, with MMC it may be harder to get cast in productions just based on the numbers. I have heard this about MMC. Nonetheless, I was really impressed MMC at the info session when my S auditioned!! Do you know the size of the LMU class? We are on west coast as well. USC is supposed to mail out letters on the 22nd and I think the portals will open on the 25th. Good luck!
Woot! Accepted to BFA Acting at IWU! D loved the school, faculty and students. She originally prescreened for BFA MT but was passed along to BFA Acting. Her understanding is that both BFA programs work pretty closely together. Appears to be opportunity for BFA Acting students to take private voice for those singers that want to continue to develop. Also appears that IWU does cross-cast between the two programs. Anyone have any further insight about this?
@frontrowmama , no i don’t know the theatre class size for LMU (but will be researching it and will let you know). Waiting on pins and needles for either the BFA or BA at USC. Either one would be an exciting option.
