@rutgersmom321 I totally understand. Last week my S withdrew from the waitlist. One did ask why. He just said that he is pursuing his acceptances and thank you for the opportunity. One just implies that he is a waitlist without much of a response needed.
@MomofJ5 Thank you! @actingdreams Thank you for your insight! I think I can kind of gauge how to go about this more efficiently now.
@rutgersmom321 My S has found a gracious way to decline by thanking the person for the amazing opportunity, something nice about the school & program, He is happy to say that he has found the perfect school for him, or has narrowed his options to â2-3â programs which seem to be a great fit for him. He wanted to let them know as soon as he could because he knows there are other people who would love to have the opportunity to be part of their program. Thank you so muchâŠhe has gotten positive responses from the program heads and they appreciated the early response. He then had to send one to the admissions people at the school as well, he scaled that back a bit.
@dody5678 Thank you for sharing your approach to the declines, it is a reminder to move on this. Please are these e-mails you are describing? How did you know to whom to send it?
@griffilus - Welcome! And Congratulations to your son! Yes, there is a wealth of knowledge here. I have learned so much from so many and am super grateful and trying hard to pay it forward to others who need knowledge or a sounding board. Love the acting community.
very nice @Dody5678
@actingdreams My S sent it to the head of the program, however, in both cases the head person (who he also auditioned with), had emailed him after his acceptance & checked in. They knew he was auditioning other places. The one he plans to send this week will go to whoever signed his acceptance email, I canât remember if it was the head, I think so.
Thanks @Dody5678 the personal contacts are so worth responding to in the same manner (in my opinion) I am for being gracious but my S feels uncomfortable getting too personal. I know that some prefer handwritten notes and more personal communication, he respectfully declines or accepts. Of course there is no wrong or right. It works for some and not others
@Griffilus I have a good friend who has a son at Elon and is about to send his youngest daughter there next year. The feedback from the parents is that they are very happy and so are the kids. The senior has a custom license plate that says, âELON18â Congrats are finding a wonderful place at Elon!
Thanks, @VASkydog!! Great to hear awesome feedback about Elon!!
I gave my son the speech about informing schools ASAP. Weâre waiting on 1 more decision from Muhlenberg (due 3/22 after 5)âŠlooking forward to May and having the decision behind us. Thinking crazy thoughts like forcing dates of when 1 school must be cut from the list, followed by a few days later another cutâŠjust to provide structure for getting to the decision. Admitted students days are booked, 'cept for that one pending school.
We are still waiting for Muhlenberg too. Anyone have dates for NYU , Northwestern and American University?
So much activity and excitement these days. Congratulations to everyone. It is such an honor and affirmation to have wonderful choices, isnât it? I also want to reach out to the lurkers (and fringe contributors, like meâŠ) to say you are welcome to jump in at any time. Some of you may be gearing up for next season and some of you may be wide-eyed by the fervor of this process. No matter. I speak for all (donât I?) in saying reach out to members with your questions and opinions. Love to read about the journies, worries and victories!
@emf1959 NYU should be coming out on March 30th, Muhlenberg on the 22nd.
Isnât it something. We Stress out about Applications, stress out about auditions, stress out about acceptances and rejections, then we cry at the graduations 1-2 months later. Who said Senior Year was fun for our Artistic kids and their parents?
Does anyone have any info on university of Maryland Baltimore countyâs acting program? I havenât been able to find much online.
Hi! Just wondering if your S may go to Rutgers ? I think mine is accepting today ! Seems like a great program!
Dear CC family,
I have a dual query relating to acting programs at two schools: Emerson and Elon. (Please feel free to respond privately or with a PM, however youâd be most comfortable - or if youâre a newbie, just ask me in this thread, & I can PM you).
Iâm wondering whether anyone (especially anyone with a current student or recent grad) has any knowledge you wouldnât mind sharing about either of these programs on any of the following topics:
-
outcomes in terms of number of acting grads working in the field 2 years out from graduation, and/or numbers of seniors who graduate with representation or acquire it within the first year after graduation (or whatever other metric you think makes sense);
-
what markets most of their connections seem to be in (mostly Boston for Emerson? mostly regional and NYC for Elon? mostly in MT? ;
-
acting vs. MT. I have a vague sense that in both of these programs, MT is what the school is most known for. Do acting students feel like they can just as high a caliber of training, faculty mentorship, connections etc., or do they feel like the unwanted step-sibling of their MT peers? (And for work afterwards, as well. I hear a lot about Elon having post-grad outcomes and a big Playbill presence, but I canât figure out if thatâs mostly or all in the MT world, vs. acting).
-
unexpected costs that arose throughout their time at the schoolâany bait & switch re financial aid?
-
level of collegiality vs competitiveness among the BFA acting students.
-
Last but (definitely) not least, level of satisfaction with overall experience anything else you think it would be important for someone to know!
TIA,
an anxious mother
@emf1959 American U snail mailed their decisions yesterday. They have stated they wonât notify via email or portal update.
Speculation on the Northwestern board based on past year releases is that decisions will be released on Thursday or Friday via portal, but nothing has been confirmed.
