BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

hi @actorparent1 will you please let me know how it goes? I have a very close friends daughter who may consider Marymount for their Contemporary Jazz BFA program ( after being Crushed with a WL for Pace). Would love to know your experience. Wish it were closer. Unfortunately their school is on spring break now but the accepted student days are when they are back to school

@actorparent1 - Considering Marymount too (for MT). We can’t go to the accepted student days, since that is one of our performance weekends. How did you set up sitting in on an acting class? Who did you talk to over there. PM me, please!

@TwinGMom Calarts accepted student day is Saturday, April 14th at 9:00 am!

Sure, @actingdreams. (But my D is only going to sit in on an acting class - I don’t know how useful that will be for someone majoring in Contemporary Jazz!)

I will pm you tonight, @Fergie978! I have the info on my desktop computer at home and will forward it to you.

@frontrowmama Thank you! I just heard back elsewhere from another mother who’s teen got the same answer as us from CalArts today and she was told that they would send the decision by mid-April… So at least we aren’t alone in this, but it’ll give us very little time to decide (like a waitlisted then accepted student has to deal with, is that what we really are?)

Unfortunately 4/14 is when she’s out of state on a mandatory high school thing, so if she’s in we’ll have to arrange our own tour time.

@actorparent1 I would LOVE to hear about your visit to Marymount as well. I would love my D to consider it.

@actorparent1 I think it’s the school experience itself. I hear there are many studios. Dorms not nearby (but probably would not be a big deal due to location)

I will definitely share my D’s impressions of Marymount after the visit!

@actorparent1 when are y’all going? We are going on accepted students day. I think the 21st.

Anyone who still hasn’t heard from Purchase?

@cassidysmom, she’s sitting in on the class next Tuesday. We’re likely not going to go to accepted students day because that’s just about the college in general. D just wants to know how the acting training is - that’s all she cares about.

@Jamesdm25 :::raises hand::: Purchase and Hartt are the last two we’re waiting for.

@bfa2018 - I don’t have an answer for you, but my D got the same thin envelope today :frowning:

@abcdeabcde Ugh, you have my sympathy. My D took it in stride – she immediately sent an email to Pace admissions to inform them she is no longer interested in attending.

We have not heard from Purchase. My daughter had a great day there. There was a call back and she was filmed we have an acceptance to their BA which she is not at all interested in. She says some kids in the green room got acceptance calls a while ago. My daughter loves it so I’d like to hope but that’s all I know. I still think her BA acceptance might have been a redirect and a rejection from the bfa but I called admissions over a week ago and they said no.

I feel a “no” coming but don’t really know…

“they said no”…meaning not to intemperate it tat way . My brain is a pile of mush…

@bfa2018 - Thanks. She took others in stride, but this is going to hurt. Best of luck to your D!

My D visited Marymount (BFA Acting) this past Friday. She liked the location, toured some of the school and got to speak with some of the faculty. She was pleased with what she saw, but she was supposed to observe a class, and it turned out that they don’t have classes on Fridays…I think they are on break this week. So, I would be very interested in others opinions of the classes offered there.

My S was also declined by letter for all the Pace acting programs, letter date 3/15, postmarked 3/22, received 3/26.

@laylamom the BA acceptance from Purchase is just the academic admit. I remember my daughter got her acceptance to the BA well before we got the thin rejection envelope. It’s just one of those schools that sends academic admits separate. She probably had to choose a second major on her application and chose BA Theater.
