BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@TwinGMom CalArts accepted student day is April 14 I am pretty sure. I will double check with my daughter and get back to you if I am wrong.

@marg928 Thanks so much. It’s great to have your help on the board this year. You bring great insight often and happy that your beautiful D is thriving !!

I do wish Purchase would just get it over with because it’s hard not to cling to a little hang nail of hope. NYU releasing on Easter
this second half of the year has been deflating. Basta already !!

@Jamesdm25 we have not heard from Purchase yet.

If NYU follows pattern of previous years - release would be this Friday

Is anyone considering Otterbein??

Anyone who will be visiting Tisch once decisions are out, see if you can attend the Studio Festival which will run from 3/29 - 4/28. The Festival will highlight each of Tisch’s ten studios. Here’s the schedule:

I am sorry about Pace @#booknerdmom That would be a serious contender if my son gets in. He auditioned for both MT and FTCV and no word from either. We don’t even get the undergrad phone calls. Ugh, the waiting is worse than the acceptance/rejection!!

Oh I see you’re Italian! @laylamom =D>

@HopeinMT and @#booknerdmom we got the skinny no today too, and yeah the wait is worse
but mine has another total top contender already accepting her and is in limbo at CalArts until possibly mid-April (which would be a contender requiring a cross country flight, that wait to book accommodations will be nastier for me than the Pace FTVC wait was for her)

And, “It Only Takes One!” so we’ll get through this.

I can only imagine the added stress of MT major possibilities and the added layers of dance and song auditions with generally lower acceptance rates at most colleges.

@TwinGMom I am glad your D has a top contender already. CalArts is supposed to be very good. I didn’t know enough about this whole ordeal and we didn’t apply though we are in the same city. I will be flying across country in a week to visit BU with my son. I hope he shadows a great person so he likes the school and forgets all about New York! He is waiting for Pace & NYU and really they are long shots so I hope he loves BU.
MT is a major pain!! If I knew what I know now last October I would have had him apply to more and different schools. He is a great singer but is really a mover, not a dancer. The money we spent on singing and dancing coaches
ugh!!!

@HopeinMT mine applied to far few schools and doesn’t want any but her top picks, so the easier to get into ones that she landed aren’t in the running anymore. BU is a great program and great school, but a large school like NYU
smaller city though (a city I loved living in, also loved living in NYC after college, before we knew that our next children would have been better off for acting if we’d stayed in NYC!). We got help for the monologue with 4 practice sessions and 2 sessions helping her plan her college application list, etc. Despite advice, she didn’t want to apply to more and at Unified she realized that most people apply to a LOT (her guidance counselor called me to make sure it was ok with us to have her apply to 10-11 colleges and reminded us that they would incur fees, hehee).

I was just sending my husband the post about the professional musician and college debt plus $70,000 in musical instrument purchases and reminded him of how cheap we all got off! Each girl has earned far more than we’ve spent between a few afternoon class sessions at local AEA/EMC theatres, a few ymca classes, and all the gas/tolls to get to auditions, rehearsals, and performances/filming (though some have reimbursed us with travel or parking stipends, that we just gave to the kids to keep).

@fergie978, @cassidysmom, @laylamom, and anyone else who’s interested in sitting in on a class at Marymount Manhattan – this is the email I got from the theater department explaining how to do that:

"We love it when students come and sit in on our classes. While we don’t have the opportunity for students to shadow an entire day, we do have classes that they can sit in on. At the link below go down to the Theatre tab under class observations. The drop-down will show you all the available dates to pick from. Please email us back with the date and class you would like to attend.

http://www.mmm.edu/admissions/visit-campus.php

Once she goes to the class there will be a student recruiter available to tell her all about the program and answer any further questions she might have."

So click on the link and choose the class your child wants to sit in on, and then email theatre@mmm.edu and tell them the class and the date and time.

Thank you so much @actorparent1 ! This is great!!

hey all - a friend just sent me this link to a really helpful article, so I thought I would share it with the Board.

Here’s an interesting video post:

@Notmommarose I have good friends whose son, who has gone to school with my D since they were 4! who was accepted to BW-MT and is deciding between that school and Pace-MT right now. He is a great great kid. If you want to dialogue at all with his Dad, I can ask his dad if he would be open to getting an email and having a conversation. They are asking the same kinds of questions we all are about various programs.

PM me if you are interested and I will try to make the connection.
Personally, I have had some great conversations with a fellow CC member whose child was admitted to one of the same schools, and its been such a joy to share information and this life phase more personally. Our kids have even started a great texting friendship, so you just never know what might come out of all this CC obsession.

@VAskydog So humbled. Similar – not the same – story in my house in a different way. I spent the whole day wrestling with whether to sell our house or refinance it and borrow against it to fund my D’s dream today (as if the name of one school, with a very comparable program to the school that has offered her a pot of money and sends her personal notes every week indicating how much they value her, could make or break her career). In combination with a number of other good words today, your honesty and vulnerability here gives me courage to do what I have known all along I need to do for my D. Time to be her mother with a much longer range view.

@Noreplays2018 I can tell you first hand what can come out of it! Right now we have a Facebook group of 70 CCers from last year’s board. It’s such a wonderful support group!

Hey everyone! I’d be very interested to know who here HAS BEEN accepted to DePaul but WON’T attend! I am on the waitlist and I would like to have an idea of how the list is moving. Thanks

Hi @calartsdreamer. If it helps, there is a Facebook group DePaul Theatre 2022. Maybe you should join. A friend my S met at Rutgers was accepted to DePaul but he resides on the east coast and wants to stay there so he withdrew over the weekend and chose Rutgers for familiar location
The WL for depaul is very small. Good luck to you

And what about the Rutgers waitlist? Does anyone know if kids have come off in prior years?
