BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Omg laylamom!!! İ’m spinning for you over here! HOORay!!! I don’t remember you at Elon (trying to keep to myself to avoid parent drama at auditions) but I vaguely remember your D and she is so beautiful and elegant! Not surprised AT ALL! You so deserve this pot of gold at the end of a very stormy couple of months. Yea!

@actingdreams The studios are fairly different. Has your son researched the different studios to see which interest him?

@proudcalidad – Know someone on the WL for NYU (not my D who chose to withdraw from her audition before it happened after she got her #1 choice admission) but hoping your D can release soon if she feels that way?

@alwaysamom yes! Meisner was always interesting but Atlantic Really piqued his interest. He is interested in Theatre but his goal is Tv/Film and then Theatre once he is established. Of course, he’d be grateful for any opportunity

@CaMom13 and @proudcalidad – Sounds like a great new screenplay … “it just takes one”!

@Atreuh, congrats on MN and Tisch! I just saw those.

@actingdreams they are all good! LOL! But they all offer a unique style of training (again, all good – just different). And sometimes you get what you didn’t want but then it turns out to be perfect for you. My D was placed in Playwrights Horizons and was not happy but it turned out to be an amazing experience for her and after a few months she realized why she was placed there and that NYU knew what they were doing!

@katew529 - actually, S was accepted at MN and Western Mich…NOT Tisch :))
I know… Mich rhymes with Tisch…there’s a semi-celebratory mood in your house…Maybe had a little red wine & chocolate. I’m with you, for sure! Let’s do that in real life - real soon!

@actingdreams also regarding his goal of film/tv that is where my D is focusing as well. None of the primary studios at NYU focus on film/tv, however, once they are in their third year they can join Stonestreet Studio where they receive excellent film/tv training.

@jbtcat Thank you for all of your helpful information. Actually, I love this forum. I came in lost and it’s been one crazy ride for me and my artist kid. Had he just chosen to become a scientist, I wouldn’t have had to stay on my computer so much but then I wouldn’t have been able to witness first hand how hard most people work to make it in this industry. I hope to see/hear about everyone’s kid doing something that they love.

@Noreplays2018 Thank you so so much. You made me laugh with the ex boyfriend haha- thank you for not making me feel like a dweeb for sharing and @katew529 congratulations on WL! They DO move at Tisch but I hear you about the $$. I heaeaeaear you ! It is an obscene amount they are asking for.
I feel happy tonight but man…I am feeling for @Dramaqueen on the other thread. Her daughter is obviously very talented and she has done all the right things and to come up empty handed at this point just s*cks so so badly. I am feeling her pain as a Mom and feel helpless. This process is sort of hypnotic and it requires an obsessive commitment on our parts and our kids part and then it can just be so damn random and unfair (life often is).

As parents we just want to make it OK for our kids and this process can be brutal…

My S also was accepted to Tisch today.

@laylamom After reading Dramaqueen’s story, I find it most important to release some of our schools that we know we’re no longer committed to. After today’s news, My S. has narrowed his choices down to 3 schools and has released one of his “reach” schools tonight. hopefully, this will ease at least 1 person waiting for an opening. It’s nice to hold on to acceptances and humbling to release those that weren’t a priority. We have 1 agenda, to get into a good school with a great program that he could see himself growing as an artist and he 'd be prepared when he graduates.

congratulations @MomofJ5! I’m sure he’s excited

Re: Financial Aid – Need Based. I decided to be a squeaky wheel today and called FA office at Top Choice School back a second time today to make sure what FA worker #1 told me was definite. Found out worker was a student and not correct. Spoke with FA Director, who told me D’s FA package just completed yesterday and the “grant” money given to us from D’s other schools where admitted was indeed being offered by Top Choice school, just not as much because top choice school does not meet full need based on EFC; instead, it offers scholarships for need-based applicants, but requires those applicants to compete for those dollars with essays etc. Because our family is not a traditional need based family, but instead in the generational donut hole between caring for parents and sending children to college, we have “special circumstances” as they call it.

So, bottom line: call the FA Directors.

Second bottom line: Call the Theater Department and talk to someone on staff.

Also found out that D’s talent award was not the maximum amount but could be increased if and when other admitted students who have talent scholarships decline admission. In that case, the offered talent scholarship money goes back into the Department’s budget and can be granted to other applicants with known need.

@Noreplays2018 gotta love the students  Everyone’s circumstance is different. Lesson learned. Call! you never know. Congratulations again

Does anyone have info on Hartt BFA Actor Training or Marymount Manhattan BFA Acting? I heard that BFA Acting kids at Hartt can’t audition for musicals… is this true? And I’m wondering if either school seems to favor MT kids over straight acting students. Any thoughts would be appreciated, along with those on Temple BA Acting.

@Noreplays2018 Yep, we’ve discussed and we’re going to decline the WL for NYU and officially release all but 3 of the others – those 3 being her top and most likely (Fordham) and then Pace and New School simply because we want to attend Admitted Student Days, since all 3 programs are so different from one another and we crave more info.

I’m out of pocket for a few hours and come back to almost 100 posts. CONGRATS TO ALL THE NYU ACCEPTANCES AND WAITLISTS!!! We knew it wasn’t affordable, so D didn’t audition, but what an amazing school!!!

For those of us on Priority Hold at TX State, D said 3 girls and a boy were called today and accepted off of the list. We figure it’s a no for us, but she really just wants an answer one way or the other.

Thanks @TwinGMom that waitlist info on NYU is interesting. They put lots of people on a list.
I guess we will check out BU and if we like it we will put a deposit down. Then I need to seriously get back to MY life. If NYU contacts is we are IN. But if not I just need to relax and let it be. I am so thankful he was WL. It helps his confidence especially when his last show in HS is coming up. This has been a really tough process. And to think I have to go through it 2X more!!
