Sorry, I didn’t mean the whole state. Just UMich in Ann Arbor.
@coronado Pace has been very generous but prior to scholarships/audition etc when we first received our package, the merit award was great! but the Tuition breakdown is
2018-2019 $67,028
2019-2022 $68,972
2020-2021 $70,975
2021-2022 $73,037
BFA program is More
it also states “these are estimates” but these estimates were printed on our financial aid package from December
I would love to know why our estimates are so different
@actingdreams - I posted the tuition for 2015-2018 (I am aware the list has different years and doesn’t include fees, room, board, and living expenses).
My point for those on the boards is - seek objective data yourself (don’t rely on others because you might miss something or misinterpret) and consider these data within the context of your financial abilities and educational/social must haves.
For some families (like ours) Pace’s cost is substantially lower than many state schools on our list. That won’t be the same for other families. We all have our own path and I am grateful for folks who share their stories to inform my own.
@DoinResearch we saw Into the Woods and it opened his eyes to what he could be doing (it was a line crosser lol)
He used to frown at DePaul like “ugh it’s so close” but when he realized how great their program is, he’s considering it. We had to go to 16th street for a real audition (he’s never done this before) and saw all of the movie/tv studios and was floored. I am glad that he witnessed it.
I said you don’t have to pay a lot for a great education and we’re right here in the middle of all of this. I’m hoping that he reroutes. We will know in just a few short weeks! NYU certainly threw a wrench in things but we will see (we are right here!!)
he’s a huge fan of actor Mahershala Ali and when I told him that the writer of moonlight graduated from DePaul and just received an Oscar for it, It piqued his interest a bit more will be glad when this is over. It’s been a crazy ride
@actingdreams I have been following your exciting journey and fell upon an article you may want to see… Evan Yionoulis from Yale was announced as the new Director of Drama (Richard Rodgers
division) at Juilliard March 8.
@actingdreams My son’s high school theater teacher gave me some good advice - look at the plays the school is producing, and ask if that aligns with the type of material you’d like to do.
@Mom2E Hi! actually I met Evan and had lunch with her while we were at Juilliard for the final callbacks. She’s very nice and appears to REALLY know her stuff! Highly impressive. She reintroduced herself during the hour that we all had to stand and say who we were, where we were from very nice lady
@actingdreams I will be an empty nester soon too. I feel you. I have had insomnia for a week and I know it has a lot to do with the choices and $ realities of those choices for me and for my D and for her sibling quite frankly bec we are all a unit you know?
My oldest D is not an actor and is likely to be the high earner among siblings (as I am in my family as the oldest). Taking care of my widowed Mom with alz bec my parents never said No (among other unfortunate choices) is not history I want repeated for my oldest D, even if my youngest little star makes some money with her art and can support herself right out of college. Just too many unknowns there is no way to control for no matter how financially viable we are now or not.
After spending the day at Illinois Wesleyan yesterday (2 hours down a day there and an evening and 2 hours back) I was reminded again of how doable it is to go down to see D perform on a regular basis; how easy to maintain a human (not just virtual) relationship for at least 4 more years. It won’t be at other TOP choice school. IWU isn’t as sexy and exciting as TOP choice but it’s good enough and maybe even better bec if its proximity to Chicago. First folio theater founders and managing directors are IWU alums, lots of Jeff award winners and nominees from IWU etc., Mariann Mayberry was a Steppenwolf icon until her untimely passing last year. Just gotta love Chicago.
They are very young still. And there is time for NYC and Los Angeles. Once they are at school they are away from home. Parents don’t drop in. At least we won’t. And frankly I doubt they will have a lot of need or opportunity to leave campus so it won’t matter if they are in a city they grew up in or one many miles away or in a cornfield most of the time. It will only matter when they want to come home bec they are sick or discouraged or just want to get away from school. Then the costs become an issue.
@Noreplays2018 I’m so sorry! I know that feeling all too well (I’m too the oldest sibling and went through everything that you’ve described )… Gotta love Chicago for sure! My S missed his 2-3 IWU audition because of that crazy unexpected snow storm (we usually handle those well. this was very unexpected) so we were rescheduled for 3-5 but hand to cancel because of the Rutgers callback. I really was hoping to still IWU acceptance because it just feels familiar. 2 of my S. Classmates are getting their BFA in acting there. They are very nice and could’ve gone anywhere because they too are very talented. I love their campus, feel and it isn’t too far from home. They may not be popular but hey! their alumni was just up for an Oscar in the Shape of Water so they must do something right
To be honest, Chicago has a lot of theatre and film work going on here. If being in IL for school is a choice, I wouldn’t sleep on it. of course NY is still available and can be there later (without the $$). Your daughter will do well there.
You never know, she may end up making more $$ than all of you and be on the screen too!
With all of this traveling/ auditioning, highs, lows, acceptances, waitlist and no’s from Top tier schools, I would be thrilled if my son just says that he will stay and go to DePaul but it’s not our choice. We’ve received enough merit/ scholarships to attend most of them except for Rutgers and that’s ok
They are on Spring Break this week and I’ve made him really research each school. Hopefully we will know something soon.
You will at least be able to visit your kids Hopefully they will save you a little $$ for a few spa days
can’t wait to hear if you confirm IWU. I honestly think it’s a great feel and are waiting for those break out stars that will put them on the map
The discrepancies in Pace tuition numbers come from the cost of room and board. Please keep in mind that most Pace students only live in dorms one or two years. After that they get a shared apartment and no longer have to take the meal plan. My D had an apt with two other girls junior and senior year and it definitely saved money.
@marg928 good idea! I did not know that you could save a lot more living off campus. I don’t know NY rent but the articles always make the prices ridiculous!
@actingdreams - was the NYU merit aid put into the acceptance letter or did you have to click on something (and if so what) to find it? I’m having a hard time finding any link, but maybe that’s just because there is nothing there for us.
I just finally did it but I’m not sure how. On the acceptance letter there are two different links. I think it’s the second one and then you click on “decision release page”. Then “NYU Albert Wbsite” then click the first box it says “sign in to Albert”. Then click on Financial Aid. …and then the link 2019. This is crazy but I did it and it worked!!
Got huge Tisch scholarship that we knew nothing about. They were not stingy (as I’ve always heard). So DO check!!!
Hope this helped.
.
Thanks @laylamom I was going to confirm. I have a lot of printing to do later today… I agree, I had heard that it’s either need-based or several almost full-rides. One student from my S School received MLK scholarship plus 20K stipend (wow) I’m not sure what school but it’s not tisch. I didn’t know that NYU did such a thing
@actingdreams it was a complicated maze! I’m really bad at this haha.
@laylamom I was so excited to apply… anxious for auditions, Panicky for decisions… now I’m exhausted LOL
@ginaf1102 I’m not sure if it’s typical, but like @toowonderful my D also paid less for Tisch as the years went on and in her senior year received an additional scholarship from them for what they said was to make her life a little easier once she graduated! It was a lovely and very welcome surprise!
@jbcat22 I’m assuming that you have to pay your deposit before you know your studio placement? I guess I’m jumping the gun since my S hasn’t decided yet. Do you know @laylamom ( I kid you not, girls are so different than boys )
@actingdreams No, you’ll find out soon if you pay the deposit or not.
