BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@actingdreams no you definitely find out your studio placement before the May 1 deadline. It’s usually about 2 weeks after your acceptance.

My daughter said they’ll let us know studio placement in 7 to 10 days. It is not continent on deposit as far as I know. I don’t think they would do that. It’s tricky because how can they really tell in that short session where you belong. On the other hand there seems to be great learning available at all of them. These decisions will be tricky and tough.

Thanks @twoboysandadog @jbtcat ok buys us time to really figure everything out. I may just need to bow out for a little while and really try to digest everything, research the programs again/ coa and where this kid will find his fit

@actingdreams They are so different! I hear you . I am also so so tired. You have so much to be proud of though. Your son did so well. Beyond what I thought was possible. He will soar …I have no doubt.

@laylamom Thanks! I just called and got his log in info :)) Now I can get some concrete details

@laylamom it is hard to know how they figure out studio placement with very little information to go on. My D was placed in Playwrights Horizons and was not happy and thought they were totally wrong placing her there. Well, guess who was wrong? My D! She quickly realized it was the perfect fit for her. She loved the training and it challenged her to grow in areas that she was lacking and improve on other areas. She enjoyed it so much that she continued her training in that studio for her third year as well. I also think it’s very important to not go in with preconceived notions about what each studio is like or what type of training you will get at a particular studio. So, even though it seems crazy, I do think they look for certain things in the kids backgrounds and their auditions that help them determine where they are placed and given how happy my D’s friends were with all of their different studio placements, they seem to do a pretty good job.

@actingdreams when my D started at Pace in 2013 the room and board was around $17000…and that’s for Sept-mid Dec, then end of Jan-mid May. Her share of the apartment cost us $1100/month but she had it the whole year. So if your kid wants to stay and work they have a place or you can possibly sublet it for the summer depending on the other roommates’ plans.

Thanks @jbcat. I’m so glad it worked out this way for your daughter! They are all so historical and so much great theatre has come out of all of them I love them all. My daughter is different though. I am trying to keep my opinions in check because I think she feels great pressure with this decision. I would love to visit her in NYC (it’s my old stomping ground 100 years ago) but that’s not the right criteria haha. I love Paywrights Horizons!!

Thank you @laylamom! Ugh, I get the pressure they feel. My D was completely torn between UCLA film and TV and NYU Tisch. It should have been such a happy time getting to decide between 2 great programs but instead she cried for an entire month trying to make a decision! (her younger sister almost killed her, she couldn’t stand the drama anymore)! My husband and I tried to keep our opinions to ourselves also because we didn’t want to get the blame if she ended up hating the program she chose! LOL. Finally, I had her discuss it with her monologue coach who had a lot of experience in the industry and she advised her that for my D she felt NYU was the better option. So on April 30th at 11pm, she finally committed to NYU! Best of luck to you and your D wherever she decides to follow her passion!

@jbcat If daughter ends up at NYU I shall have many questions for you. I’m so glad it all worked out. It’s the greatest city in the world!!!

Anyone know when all CCM decisions will be posted? I called last week and they said they would all be up today at 5 eastern time, but mine isn’t there

@actingdreams! What? Full-ride and stipend!? I’ve never heard of that at the undergrad level. Hoping a Junior I know is in that same boat next year.

Thank you for the info!

@laylamom absolutely! feel free to pm me or ask here!

We knew NYU studio placement (Adler) before we made deposit. It has been said many times in past years - but there is a “sorting hat” sort of magic in studio placement - they really know what they are doing.

@Noreplays2018 Yes it’s for MLK Scholarship and it’s for the CAS at NYU. Not Tisch. That would be amazing! I did notice that my S did get a generous scholarship. more than what was expected. I wonder if anyone from Tisch has ever received a full ride for their program. I highly doubt it!

I think last year the NYU studio results were out by 4/5- if I’m remembering correctly. My guess is by next Friday.

@actingdreams & @Noreplays2018 I was catching up from the posts earlier today. Reading what you both wrote about IWU has comforted me some because I think my S will be committing to IWU. He has an acceptance at CCPA and one from CMU (and a few others) Still waiting on CMU financial aid but I don’t think they would come close to IWU. It is truly an honor to have an acceptance from them. S isn’t stuck on one school. He’s just happy to be accepted. He loved the vibe and the current MT students he met during his audition day there. So much that he doesn’t want to visit other schools. Still trying to convince him. So I guess it’s safe to say that is going to be his final choice. Sorry for rambling on but I don’t hear much about IWU and I got excited and just wanted to say thank you for your input. Will keep you posted once his commitment is finalized. Thinking and praying for everyone else waiting >:D<

Long time lurker, joining into the conversation finally, @actingdreams my d is in her 3rd year at Tisch and absolutely LOVES it! We had heard that Tisch didn’t give much scholarship money and were surprised when she received a full tuition scholarship from Tisch. (Full tuition and books not room & board). There are two others in her studio & year who have the same. Tisch has a new dean who my daughter tells me is lowering class sizes and may be giving more money as well. Within the studios the classes are divided into groups. My d’s was a group of 13 who quickly bonded. They had all their studio classes together, meals, and projects. They are still a close group 3 years later. Any questions that anyone has I would be happy to answer. CONGRATULATIONS to all the artists starting their college careers and to all the parents of these talented students. BAL to all!

@latinaMTmom My S has IWU high on his list also, because of the same experience at audition. He is visiting 2 schools next week, but those were typical auditions with little exposure to school & students. Another impressive program that seems a hidden gem.
