BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Enjoy your shows. This service is cool - they meet you at the theater with the ticket before showtime.

@BrokeDad0530 - our family loves bargain hunting for Broadway shows. Here are our strategies and tools (besides Today’s Tix of course https://www.todaytix.com/x/nyc/shows).

  1. This link summaries all the lotteries, rush tickets, and standing room only - http://www.broadwayforbrokepeople.com/. Super helpful resource for one-stop shopping.
  2. Download the “broadway lottery” app (icon looks like a street sign). You can load your person info. Then when entering individual lotteries, your info will be pre-populated; saving time and frustration. Some shows (like Kinky Boots) even let you sign up for lotteries a week in advance and for multiple shows at a time.
  3. If you are an educator, military etc - check Theatre Devekopment Fund https://www.tdf.org/ For low member annual fee - all tickets are <$47
  4. HiPTIX - for students and 18-35 year olds. Free to join - $25 tix to Roundabout productions. If you become a Gold member (one time tax-deductible donation $100) , you get better seats and access to selected events like talk backs. The website can be a little wonky - so call and they will walk you through sign up or sell tickets over the phone to members.

  1. If you like using TKS booth - Seaport location is so much more chill, has shorter lines and often has more inventory and diverse shows. They also sell matinees a day in advance.

Does anyone know this? Has Hartt AT sent out snail mail already? – We have been a little off the grid because of a crazy busy schedule. Haven’t been on CC in over a week. May have missed something in the mail. – I do not that they notify by snail mail, but just do not know if my S missed something. – It might have been a small rejection letter. I cannot imagine missing an acceptance if it was mailed…

@STHmom, when did your son audition at Hartt? They notify in order of audition date. My D auditioned on Feb. 16 and her letter arrived on March 30. (She also got a phone call the day before, but it was only because I had called to ask if the notification had been sent out yet and left a voicemail, so they called D to tell her.)

If your son auditioned prior to Feb. 16, he should have heard by now, so call them. If he auditioned after that, give it til Friday and then call.

Daughter WL at Purchase. Ball of confusion here.

@laylamom You are getting so many confirmations of her talent!! Going to be tough to decide…

Hello everyone! Has anyone here heard from DePaul’s waitlist and/or knows when they will probably start letting us know about the waitlist results? thank you.

Thank you @VASkydog . I’m sure your’s and all of us here have very talented kids. The ones with fantastic results, heartbreaking results and all of us in between trying to do our best for them. At Unifieds I would get star struck looking around at all the youthful talent and interesting brave kids. It is though, a harrowing process. Anyone reading this preparing for next year- expect the unexpected. Feeling emotional tonight and I feel like hugging everyone.This is just crazy …especially if one is uncomfortable (MEEEEE) with waiting for it all to unfold. Brutal.

@calartsdreamer I dont know about when they will start contacting waiisted students but today, one of the faculty emailed my S to see where he is about his acceptance for acting. Maybe this is to start giving them an idea of who may decline. They accepted so few, It would be interesting to see if they wait until the end of this month to notify. Hope you get in

@actingdreams thank you.

@STHmom - My son received an admission packet from The Hartt School last Friday. He auditioned in February in Chicago. Hope your son has gotten good news or gets good news soon!

Finally got a Yes from the New School. both my S and I forgot that he had applied. It was a strange audition. We are part of the equality, inclusion team probably more than most but 95% of my S audition was a dialog about it with 5% being the actual audition and convo about their program itself. Lovely school but it looks like he’s focused on 3 schools now (in case anyone was on the waitlist) he declined this AM

@actingdreams, I had to laugh that your S got an acceptance to a school both he and you had forgotten he’d even applied to! It just goes to show how crazy and overwhelming this process is - having to apply to so many schools that you even forget about some of them!

Glad to hear that he’s narrowed it down to 3 schools! Can’t wait to see where he ends up!

@actorparent1 I’m so glad that you got your great acceptance. All of this has been such a roller coaster ride. My S started out wanting a true conservatory training school, then got teased a bit with other programs. I think he’s back to his grounding place regarding great training and mostly conservatory. We shall see. Thanks!

@calartsdreamer - My S declined DePaul this weekend. It was in the top two schools for him, but he ultimately decided to pursue MT. But hoping that his decline frees up a position for someone on the WL:)

Anyone have any information on New York Film Academy for acting? I find some negative reviews about the place online but they are a few years old. Does anyone have info about their current curriculum or reputation? On the surface the faculty seem legitimate but it concerns me about the reviews I’ve read even though they aren’t recent. Thanks ahead of time.

Have not heard anything positive.

@BrokeDad0530 I know someone who left Rider after one semester (just this year) and is currently at NYFA. I believe she has applied to transfer to another college but in the meantime her mother tells me she loves it.

Do you know why the student left Rider after one semester? My daughter is looking at Rider and LIU due to their affordability (after aid). The hard part is that she has been accepted into NYU Tisch School of the Arts, but it’s too expensive for our family.

@2ndGradeTeacher I’ll PM you
