@CaMom13 - I don’t think he wants to end up in California… whole family is in east coast - but who knows…
@actorparent1 yes my daughter has a good amount of free time being in a BA and got herself a job when she went back to school after winter break. She’s working F-Su at a juice bar in Venice making great money plus tips…and she really enjoys it!
@marg928 - Does your D have a car out there? How does she get to/from Venice?
@MomofJ5 she does not have a car she’s been using Uber. That being said, she was flipping out the other day because she can’t stand them anymore. They can never figure out where to pick her up on campus and she just asked me the to have a car there next year. Not sure that’s going to happen. I don’t even know how we would go about doing that since we live in NJ! Depending on what time she goes into work, and if she shares a ride or not, the Uber can be anywhere from $6 to $15 each way. It’s less than 5 miles from campus.
@marg928 - My D has her car (across the country) at school this year as a sophomore. We shipped it using a car carrier and it was about $1000 to get it there. Best decision ever since she is at a campus that really “needs” a car after freshman year due to housing locations etc.
My son is going to start at Guthrie in the fall. Could I PM you and ask some questions. What liberal arts classes did your daughter take? etc.
Son just made the decision, we’re going to let it settle for a few days and on Sunday click the button, and do a little student loan lesson. I am excited, relieved, and I’m looking forward to having one less schedule to juggle in the household. Then, in 2019, daughter graduates high school and we will be empty nesters (well, for a time, its possible for theater kid to come back and live at home) For me, this imagined break will be bliss. I’m exhausted. I’ve also made a pledge to myself that I will not over indulge in the purchasing of dorm stuff. We’ve got plenty of stuff at home, and really its just things specific to a XL twin that needs purchasing. I will avoid Bed, Bath and Beyond at all costs.
@robinmom Absolutely. Happy to help.
@DoinResearch S took minimal stuff to Chicago last year and things we realized that was needed we purchased at Target during move in. Nice way to coordinate with other families ect.
Amazon Prime was a big help throughout the year.
His suite mate brought his entire home with him so S was fortunate to not need a lot of stuff lol. Next year will be different since he will be an RA.
Were already buying stuff to keep in the storage unit so it’s not a big financial hit in Aug!
Let the fun begin. It’s all easy sailing now that you’ve decided
@DoinResearch - we sent sheets, towels and a foam bed topper with our first college kid. Anything else came from Amazon. So glad your S has a good decision and you’re on the “other side” of the great hill! We’re going to be empty nesters this year after D leaves and although I will miss her terribly I am also looking forward to a little peace and quiet.
@CaMom13 That’s my plan! Plus, the family event is but a month after move in, so anything missing can be brought then. @svamom you’re right, there’s the whole roomie coordination thing, another reason to not load up. It will also give son a reason to interact with roomie before the move in, right?
@actorparent1 You cannot compare a university Conservatory to a high school program. Those 7 or so hours in class each week is just the tip of the iceberg of her work in those classes. She will be expected to put in 3 plus hours outside of class for every 1 hour in class. Conservatories expect their students to work like professionals - putting in the time needed to perfect their craft. Trust me – she will not feel like it’s LESS work than high school.
Thanks, @daughtersdreams! That’s all she wants: to work on her craft all day every day!
Amazon Prime is boss!
Is there a parent group online some place for students in this program
I hope this article posted today from my hometown is alllowed (tissues maybe required)

@actingdreams Bring it on!!! I’m ready! Remember life before kids? I hardly remember it, and looking forward to trying to rediscover that lifestyle (well, for 3 years maybe)
@DoinResearch You’re right! it’s the only thing that keeps me going. I’m trying to remember those days myself also, I’m looking at my next vacation right now I tend to say if they are with my kids, it’s a family trip. No Kids, VACAY!
Daughter committed to Pace today. I’m very grateful to the community on here these past months for the insight and support. CC was very helpful as we navigated senior year. Thank you!
@blessedgirl3 Congratulations!! I’m sure she will have a fantastic time at Pace
