@jenniferm1973 It is the only one we haven’t heard from. I think they are just taking their time. I know of no one who has heard back from Ithaca. Soon I hope?
@laylamom where else have you heard from?
We are all acting BFA with only one MT (no pre-screen there). Elon, Syracuse, CMU, Pace, Depaul (did not pass) and waiting on Ithaca.
@MI3rdClosingAct just a bit of a warning with Depaul. We were a bit looser with Depaul pre-screen. My daughter said using Slide Room was giving her grief in the upload so that may not have been great on the receiving end. Also she chose to do two contemporary (even though they asked for “heightened speech” in the text for one - I think they wanted classical). They said it COULD be contemporary and those are her two strongest so that is what she sent. It is the only pre-screen she did not pass. She was bummed ( I am a little relieved as I love seeing our list become more honed).
So be careful with them and give them and maybe give them exactly what they ask for ? Just some 2 cents…
My S finally finished his first prescreen but made a mistake, so I’m pretty nervous he won’t pass. He’s been crazy busy, and filmed Chapman on the night of the “priority deadline” on November 1st. He was in a rush and missed that you were supposed to state the name of the play and author before each monologue. He did state the plays in his separate introduction clip, but it sounds like not following directions perfectly makes it likely not to pass.
Holding out hope, but I guess this will be a good lesson to be careful and double check requirements when he films the rest of his prescreens next week.
@Naevia My S applied for Screen Acting too, and I think you’ll be fine having it in the initial introduction video. In fact, I can’t even find on Chapman’s website where it specifically says you must slate before each monologue.
My D heard on Monday from Ithaca and a bunch of her friends heard last week. All have passed the prescreen.
@Theateemom101 that’s great news. Congrats
Thank you. She was thrilled.
Just wondering if anyone has heard from Chapman regarding their prescreen?
@London2017 No word here and my S submitted weeks ago. I think they were waiting until the 11/1 deadline passed to start reviewing them. It should be anytime though given they have an EA and ED option and they need to start scheduling the auditions.
Finally heard back from Ithaca!
Yep, we heard from Ithaca too. Thankful to be done with this part of the long process! Now for the fun stuff.
@laylamom - I think you guys were probably OK on the genre of pieces - website says one MUST be contemporary/natural speech and the other MAY be “contemporary, classical or heightened (poetic) text.” (I’d never even heard of heightened text before…anyway…)
What I’m wondering about is why they are so specific re monologue length on the one hand but then use the extremely vague “brief” re the personal statement. Brief, as in even briefer than one minute? Or brief-for-sharing-a-story-of-a-profound-experience, which to my thinking could take a few minutes?
Just heard about a kiddo who received the DePaul rejection while sitting in the DePaul open house. Ouch.
@katew529 Ouch to that : ( poor kiddo. Yes I found them fussy and the vagueness of “brief” was confusing. My girl was so tired filming that statement. These kids do so much and often with piles of homework waiting in the wings.
She did ramble on a bit and we let it be …we were both tired of being so careful with all the different instructions. Depaul was not meant to be for her and that is OK.
That said, I did appreciate Pace’s “wild card”. Nicely open. This whole process is mind boggling!
Hi 1:06 isn’t long at all. a few weeks ago, we submitted a 1:11 and a 59 second Monologue on a Friday and had an Invite the following Monday to Audition. Your pre screen at 1:06 shouldn’t be a problem
Has anyone received final word from Otterbein on prescreen? My D didn’t get a rejection, more like she was placed on hold, and that we should hear more later.
@laylamom By bringing up length of intro, I didn’t mean to suggest that your D might’ve done anything wrong with hers.
Honestly, I think DePaul is one of the programs that simply admit such a stunningly low percentage of kids that tons of wonderfully talented applicants will not pass their prescreen. The young woman I just mentioned is an incredible talent, with IMHO a great shot not only at being a successful working actor but even at being famous someday–and I don’t say that lightly.
This whole process is starting to remind me of the single dating life: An unexpected breakup, or just not having a guy call back for a 2nd date after you thought the first one went wonderfully, and a person might sit around forever analyzing every word or gesture and speculating about what could have gone wrong.
Bottom line, I’m assuming that 99% of the time, we won’t know why our kids get rejected by any given program or at any given stage of the process, right? I know I will personally face a huge struggle to be Zen about it so as to reduce the risk of driving myself & my family bananas.
I hear you @katew529 ! I did not take it that way at all. I so agree. We will never ever know the why of it. I admire the tenacity and guts these kids have because I don’t think I could have taken the rejection at all well at age 17. Zen …yes indeed. I am and will also be trying to find it this year. We have driven many miles today for my daughters first and only MT audition (the rest are acting) and I am as tight as a drum. Opposite of zen but I’m trying!!!
@laylamom, I could never have done it either. (Truthfully, I was terrified of rejection at that age so would never have set foot onstage in the first place.) How did the MT audition go? Sounds like great practice, if nothing else!
