@laylamom Hope all went well for your daughter’s MT audition. My daughter is currently at her audition with her dad, as he lives part time in Florida. She will be glad to get the first one done. As I say"Have to rip the bandaid off at some point"
@type1mom, thanks for sharing your experience re open slots as various schools. For those numbers you gave 10/265 or 10/26, do you recall whether those represented the total # of slots open across all audition locations,or were you looking specifically at, say, one location for Unifieds? (And straight drama, or MT, or both?) My D is still not ready to submit anything. Hard to know how much to push when you don’t want to add to their stress but also don’t want to see them miss a boat (or - gulp - many boats!) that they really want to try riding on.
@katew529 Carnegie, UM/Guthrie and Ithaca are all acting spots. Roosevelt is Acting and MT spots. Here’s the latest numbers for total spots available for all locations. PM me if you’re wondering about a specific location/school. CMU 96; UM 312; Ithaca 191 + 40 video spots; Roosevelt/CCPA 530
@type1mom - that was so sweet of you! Thank you so much. really really kind of you to follow up.
Either I’m mistaken, or the DePaul submission portal’s format has changed! Any insight on how to submit the prescreen? I thought there was a submit portfolio button but now I don’t see it
@raddyjo they just added a note on the portal page today that says portfolio/video submission link is temporarily unavailable. We were looking for it yesterday, too.
My D heard back from Syracuse and Ithaca both late on Friday, for Acting, and was able to schedule both auditions. Now on to first auditions on 11/17 (Syracuse) and 11/18 (Marymount Manh.).
@FourStars Congrats and enjoy the ride! I am looking forward to hearing about everyone’s acting audition experiences. My D heads to The New School this Saturday. I can’t believe audition time is actually here!
BAL to everyone with upcoming auditions. My S will have his first at Emerson on Saturday.
@FourStars Congrats on her passing her prescreens. I am curious when she submitted to Syracuse?
Thanks @Twoboysandadog . Still waiting patiently for Chapman prescreen results…
@London2017 Same. We know someone who passed theatre last year and she did not hear until Friday, November 18th. Looks like they’re on track this year to have a similar timeline.
Has anyone applied to Temple? Or know anything about their acting program?
D was planning to audition for them at Unifieds after a rep at a PA college fair told her they go to Unifieds. Turns out that only their MT Dept goes to Unifieds.
The process for getting an acting audition is described on their website, with no pre-screen mentioned. But when we emailed them as instructed, we got a very vague response suggesting we send. “a physical video” to a faculty member. No parameters af all re length or content.
Of course the email invited follow-up questions, but IDK… it seems weird that they don’t have this process laid out more clearly. Kinda makes me. wonder whether this is. one to cross off the list… just makes me wonder about the program im general, whether it’s a dept in a state of transition or upheaval of some kind.
@London2017 Hi. My D submitted on 10/17 at night for Ithaca and Syracuse. Good luck on first auditions to everyone! Will report back, please do the same!
My S emailed Temple and weeks later received a one-sentence reply with an audition time, but absolutely no other information (monologue requirements, where to go for the audition, etc.).
A trip to Philadelphia is expensive for us, so I wish they had provided more info or seemed more organized. Now I feel like I should call and ask about a video.
Hi ! Just keeping our journey posted for this interesting and lovely CC fam. My daughter passed 4 out of 6 pre-screens. She passed Elon, Syracuse, CMU, Pace but did not pass Depaul or Ithaca. These were for Acting BFA only.
I really like posting the ones she did not pass even though they hurt a bit momentarily. Honestly sometimes we hear so much good news from other posters ( which is wonderful) that perhaps it might help others to know that we all hit the rough spots. There will be more ahead I’m sure. My daughter is taking it all very well so far.
We’ve auditioned on campus for Elon (acting) and Emerson (MT). I must say they were both dreamy schools. We loved both programs for different reasons. Really loved!!
My daughter did a 5 week MT Intensive at Emerson after her Sophomore year in HS and fell in love with all things Emerson. The acting teacher was her favorite ever and she loved everything about it. This is a top top choice for her but knowing the odds I am trying to guard against pinning hopes on one program. She also loved SUNY Purchase because she craves that intensity. I love their price tag.
We are doing Chicago and NY Unifieds. We can drive to NYC so that saves money. All acting but for Emerson (because of her love of that MT program and the faculty). My daughter is a dancer and singer and does love many musicals but the whole thing only clicks for her when the acting training goes deep. She loves modern playwrights like Annie Baker and also wants the breadth of learning Shakespeare and the classics.
She skipped the fall play because of all this work but is entirely stoked for her upcoming Winter/Spring musical Cabaret (it is her favorite).
I do not know how these kids do it. I drive her, love her, fly her and feed her but everything else she has done on her own. She tells me when there is an audition and it goes on the calendar. We don’t have a lot of money but have received great hep and support from others and MTCA.
These kids are propelled by passion and the joy of working their tail’s off for what they love and this is just beautiful. Especially in this world- right now when the arts are more important than ever.
Sorry…too much coffee and I made a really strong batch this AM haha!
@laylamom Thank you so much for writing that. I really touched me and reminded me that this path of our kids is precious for depth of their aspirations to be artist. I am so happy to have this forum for support along the way.
True words @laylamom about the rejections. They will all get that in some form along the way. At some point it is about fit and not talent necessarily. You have to know they will find their spot and thrive. Have faith.
Great post, @laylamom ! I agree, on all counts. It is very helpful, for us and our kids, to share and hear about the not so sweet stuff-as well as the stuff to celebrate. These kids have amazing fortitude and optimism. My D had a long day (MT) at Elon yesterday. I would have been curled in the fetal position before day’s end! Wishing your D and all of these wonderful souls a great audition season.
What @bfahopeful says about it not all being about talent, but about fit, is true, even for prescreens. D didn’t pass one prescreen, and we happen to know (can’t say how) that it was because the department head thought she looked way too young, and he likes a more sophisticated look. The program was at the bottom of D’s list, but the rejection still stung D at the moment.
Hang in there, everyone!
