@FourStars Sorry to hear about pace. My sons audition is tomorrow (for any scholarship available and the program) but its at the bottom of our list. I’m just hoping that it doesn’t go over 3 hours so that we can make our other 2 auditions that are on campus here in Chicago. It literally is my only concern. Maybe we can ask to go first? Were you there all day? I’m sure your next auditions will be great. our DePaul was questionable and then we had Juilliard and things turned around in a matter of 4 days BAL
@123Mimi it has to feel nice to be finished with auditions. I keep thinking that I should’ve booked a room for short naps instead of dreaming of come home today to get one. We have 4 more days of auditioning all day except for Thursday and it’s only 1. I’m even considering letting my son handle it at 11:15 and taking an uber back to school when it’s over The only anxiety you have now is awaiting acceptances. This part is the worse Good luck to your daughter. I’m sure she will land exactly where she’s supposed to be and love it!
Does anyone know where Chapman is auditioning in Chicago? Having a hard figuring out the location. TIA!
@Boilermom Thank you so much. As a parent, the thought of auditioning again once in the program does not sit well with me. We will just have to see how this whole process works out. That is why we cast a large net of acting and mt programs. BAL to all that are at Chicago Unifieds.
@actingdreams ours finish up next week, but I agree it’s been a long haul. Headed up for CalArts today, then next week we head up to LA for the grand finale (NYU, Fordham, BU, and Carnegie). We live in San Diego and are doing mostly regional auditions. I’m curious to get the vibe of CalArts — I’ve heard quite the variety of comments on that one.
@123Mimi congrats on being finished. Enjoy the wonderful memories that you have created with your D. They will last forever. I cannot wait to see where everyone ends up! I hope some of our kids are together.
@FourStars - Pace is an interesting one. They are looking for something very specific. I am assuming having a lot of classical text experience is NOT what they are looking for. Just an assumption - I am not a reliable source. Break legs to all the kids today… and tomorrow…
@katew529 My D did her Acting auditions 2 years ago in Chicago. The only school on her list where she needed to block out 1/2 day was Pace. The difference could have been the schools on her list.
Crazy day for D yesterday. She auditioned at Pace, got a same day callback, enjoyed it, and felt really good about that. Then she got something to eat, and then got on the subway to go home.
As the train was starting to pull into a station (Jay Street), a man suddenly committed suicide by THROWING HIMSELF IN FRONT OF THE TRAIN!!! D didn’t see the man, thankfully. But she said the train suddenly lurched to a stop halfway in the station, and people on the platform were screaming and pointing in horror, and soon the platform was flooded with police and firefighters, and she said everyone on the train just KNEW what happened. They were stuck on the train only about 10 minutes, but she said it was awful, sitting there knowing a person was UNDER the train. Such a horrible thing.
Eventually they opened a door on the train so people could get out, but they evacuated the station and closed it and no trains were running. D wasn’t familiar with the neighborhood, so she was going to call Lyft, but her phone battery died! So she wandered around in a bit of a panic for a while (and in freezing cold weather too!), but eventually found a bus that would bring her near our neighborhood, so she took it, and then walked the rest of the way home. She was very shaken up by the whole thing. That poor man!
@actingdreams is your son auditioning for BFA acting at Pace? Or MT? Those two take the longest. BFA acting has a movement call back for a small group at the end and it took longer than 4 hours our year (have read the same from others here).
You mentioned your son is auditioning at Pace for scholarships? Is he already admitted to one of the PA programs? (not academically - I know that admit comes early/on a rolling basis and is different from the artistic admit). Just curious as I have never heard of anyone admitted to Pace PA without auditioning first during the regular audition season (with the exception of those who go to Moonifieds). Thanks for any info. And BAL - hope the timing works out! Tell them of the constraints and hopefully it will.
Omg! @actorparent1 that is so horrible. I imagine those events happen more frequently than we would like to know. It is an event your D will not forget - and the fact that she navigated it with success (without cellphone) is impressive. That same thing happened to me on a train in London. They made us all get off and I had NO IDEA where I was. It was an adventure for sure!!
Bright part of her day is she got a callback at Pace so that’s AWESOME! Congratulations!!
@actorparent1 that is awful. SO sorry. Hope you D is ok.
Thanks, @ginaf1102 ! It’s good news for sure, even if it got temporarily overshadowed. I told her, at least this tragedy didn’t happen on her way TO the audition, which would have made her late, or even miss it! (But then I feel selfish and callous saying that, when a man died! Is it awful of me?)
Thanks @bfahopeful !
Hello @fourstars. I’m the Mom of Jamie. I’m didn’t get to say good bye yesterday because I had to go back to my hotel. I thought I would see you when I got back and was surprised you weren’t there. I hope your daughter was ok. My son was better than me. I was just surprised by their choices lol. I guess they were looking for something specific. Good luck with all the rest of the auditions and our kids will see each other in Minnesota. I am sure they will both end up exactly where they are supposed to be! Take care
@theatremom10 Last year Chapman was holding auditions at Palmer House but they were not in any of the ballrooms, they were in a private suite. The confirmation we received provided directions with the audition time and suite number. You might want to double check your email confirmation.
@actorparent1 first off Im so sorry you guys (or anyone) had to witness these events! I don’t know what else to say except that I hope your D is really ok and if she has any other monologues, she gets passed those events. I maybe shouldve clarified. My S is auditioning for Acting. Yes accepted with what would be an amazing merit scholarship if the cost wasnt so much. This is for acceptance into the program buf its so far on the bottom of our list, it will be perfectly fine if he doesnt receive a callback. We have mason gross at 9am and 2 more after pace. My S is ok skipping it if it appears that auditions will surpass 4pm.
For what he’s trying to do, he’s unsure of the fit. Oddly his GF is a dancer and She’s trained with several ballet companies all over the world and 4 hrs per day at their school per day in her conservatory. Oddly enough, she had a Pace audition in NYC yesterday and their commercial dance program is her top choice. I know she would be a runner for Juilliard or some other top dance school but she wants pace and was one of a handful chosen for a callback. NYU is very interested in her and she said she’d still choose pace over tisch
@actingdreams got it. BAL to your son for all of of his auditions. Sure he will do great with all!
@bfahopeful thank you! We’re sitting patiently for 2 hrs at the Hyatt before NYU audition at the W. We had to attend the very long UNSCA info chat and return at 6 for the audition. I should’ve rented a room for a quick nap lol. Will let you know how it goes. My son saw a music conservatory (instrauments) student at the info session for unsca.
After witnessing the Theatre and MT productions, I’d be inspired to audition into one of these programs as well
@actingdreams look forward to hearing how it goes at both NYU and UNCSA! I admit to being completely biased but when we went to the info session for UNCSA it completely sold us. Hope you found it informative.
@bfahopeful the session sold us for sure! Their teaching style, classes, dance, the training from the pro’s who come in to teach. Literally blown away. The new director is very gifted. I can tell. He’s not a direct eye contact type of person and I’ve met many geniuses like him who are just that., Highly advanced in their field. Harvard for over 20 yrs says a lot
