BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

Same to your D, @ginaf1102 !!

@owensfolks and @ginaf1102 - my S auditions on Monday for UMinn. Please feel free to share experiences! Good luck and BAL to your kids!!!

This is our first time in Chicagoā€¦ we are flying to Ohare ā€¦ Uber looks like best bet for $50 from airportā€¦ do I tip as well?

If you are staying downtown, you can take the CTA blue line train for about $4.50 each. PM me if you want some pointers. The Monroe stop is a 1-block walk to Palmer house.

The train originates at Oā€™hare. No guesswork.

@Mom2E Totally agree with @Atreuh I have come in and out of Oā€™Hare for years and taken CTA into the Loop area downtown. By far the easiest and cheapest way to go.

@Atreuh Is that also true of Midway? I am assuming I can use my map app and make my way through Chicago via public transportation. I hope my assumption is true! Iā€™ll be landing in about 3 hours.

@Mom2E Please check to see if the Traffic is like a parking lot using your Mapsā€¦It will tell you how long it will take to get to your hotel. If you are staying downtown. The Train is $2.50 and itā€™s inside of the airport. Please jump on it, the blue line will take you within the block of your hotel and you will probably get there faster than an uber or taxi.

Canā€™t believe this is the last week of most of our Auditions I canā€™t believe I have stressed for months just trying to get to these last 5 days and then it will almost be over  Hoping everyone rocks their auditions and end up being the first choice for their dream school

^I feel the same way, @actingdreams !!

@ginaf1102 - Sorry to be so late in answering, (the kid was in a matinee. had to have the phone off.) The train from midway is the Orange line. If you are going to the Palmer house, take the train to Adams/ Wabash stop. It is an underground station. just come up and look at your google map. itā€™s about a block away.
You can look at this mobile app. Tap Orange line , then Adams & Wabash and you will see how long it will take to get there.

@Itstrueitis wow that was nice a good experience AT ALL. I always say that the schools are also auditioning for us. Our kids will hopefully be there throughout the duration of a program. I completely understand you venting. Weā€™re auditioning for BU this week but my Son really wants NYC, a far distance from California.
Iā€™m sure your daughter knows to shake them off and will connect with the perfect fit for her growth.

@Itstrueitis - We visited BU last spring. We got the exact same story and vibe. (Audition is Monday.) Thanks for the account of both experiences. Best to your D!

@sopranomtmom Iā€™m going to clarify your post. Millikin IS a no-cut program. Hurdles are not the same as cuts. A program has a designated number of seniors and takes in more than that number. Everyone knows for a fact that at least the difference between their incoming class and the set number is getting cut. With a cut program, it doesnā€™t matter how talented or proficient your class is, X-number of you are getting kicked out. At Millikin, there are opportunities to be re-directed, but thereā€™s not ever a set number of people who MUST be out of BFA. Hurdles are pretty normal BTW. Music majors have barriers, which are hurdles with a different name. Itā€™s no different from any other fine arts major where you have to meet certain standards or get re-directed. If I had done poorly on my juries as a music major, I would have been re-directed to BA music instead of BM music. Itā€™s the same for art majors- if my roommateā€™s portfolio review hadnā€™t gone well, she would have been re-directed to BA art.

@GloriaVaughn if you read my post I state that while it is NOT actually a cut program, the hurdles are a process by which cuts are made which I believe is an accurate statement. There have been several accounts I have read here on CC over the years where students in the BFA program at Millikin ended up being re-directed as a result of the hurdles process. It is not the same as juries as I understand them at most other schools which are designed to monitor progress and assess areas in which a student may need more work or improvement. The results of the hurdles system as described appear to have the potential to be much more punitive and are certainly something a potential student should be aware of before choosing to attend.

BAL at The last round of auditions! My D had Pace yesterday and Film TV went well and she felt good in BFA Acting but was not called back. Disappointed but moving on. Finish strong! Enjoy the time with your child.

Is anyone at USC audition in nyc? Did you receive a confirmation email this week? We didnā€™t which makes me a little nervous.

My D is done with auditions!

I am so proud of her. Donā€™t know how any of it will play out but one of the sayings I value is to do the work and surrender the results. And she has done the work. the application process was the worst, and the auditions were interesting. It was fascinating to witness the philosophy of the theatre programs in action. Some programs really did value the process and seem to see art as a collaboration. Others have (to me at least) the old paradigm of top-down right/wrong philosophy. It is clear to me and my daughter that the artistic process is a component of art and thus she will develop her voice and her craft in a place that holds space for the evolution of her. This audition process has brought us closer together while the deadlines made me very anxious and thus caused us to be snippy with each other.

No matter what ends up happening for her, I am so glad she went through this. It was part of the process for her in understanding herself and sorting out where she belongs next to get where she is going.

I am very very curious to see how this all plays out.

@myboy2000, not sure if theyā€™ll have walk-ins for the BFA programs, but this year, NYU is at the W Hotel on Lake Shore Drive. A bit further north than all the others.

@artskids @myboy2000 I wonder if it may have changed in the past couple of years. Based on our familyā€™s experience and others we chatted with at NYU yesterday, many (most?) acting programs seem to be asking for students to block out entire half-day chunks.
