@“Jamieand Winthrop” 30 minutes sounds amazing especially when so many people had to audition with them. They must’ve been quite alright with her being chatty and probably refreshing. I hope that she gets in especially if BU is her dream school
My son had Suny Purchase today. He said that Dean Irby and maybe a lady by the name of Trazana were his auditors today. He forgot that they requested 2 two minute monologues so he did a Shakespeare and a 1 minute comedy that he’s only had to use for UNCSA.
He also was filmed and was told to speak a little slower with both of them for the camera (Mr. Irby had left the room and had came back in with a camera so I’m wondering if they read these CC Post lol). The camera was not in the room.
They asked a few questions. My son asked about summer internships etc (he said that he got stuck with his questions this time around or perhaps he was just tired) There weren’t much of any adjustments other than to do his monologues just a little bit slower (past 2 minutes and past the 1 minute comedy) for the camera. Mr. Irby gave him his business card and that was it. 15 minutes tops. They are also holding walk-ins today
@M2twins The Department Head for FTVC is actually an Actor that I see in many things on tv ( Just found this out today … wow) . It’s Mattew Humphreys and he’s highly educated (MFA from Yale) http://performingarts.pace.edu/faculty/matthew-humphreys
@actingdreams my D auditioned at 2 today (Purchase) and asked the same question about internships…
Thanks for the info @Mom2E did she receive a business card? Was she filmed? I was really curious about the card thing
Do students typically call these people and ask more questions? ( smiling here).
@toowonderful Gladly. At least I know not to judge a book by its cover.
@actingdreams… no business card for us and yes filmed
@actingdreams I’m sure they’re hoping your son will call!
Does anyone have anything to share on Syracuse acting auditions? Do they lead off with an info session?
@Atreuh Syracuse wasn’t on our list but I did find the most recent post about the audition process. The thread isn’t long but hopefully it answers some of your questions

Well, one nice thing about the card is that he knows to whom to send a thank you note. D spent at least an hour last night trying to figure out who she auditioned for at Tisch. lol.
@“Jamieand Winthrop” I didnt even think to do thank you cards. Sounds like a very nice touch
don’t stress about thank you’s! It comes up every year. It is super nice and I truly do think auditors appreciate them and even remember them. However, I do not think it makes a lick of difference in being accepted. My D wrote none and got in the majority of schools she applied to. You can’t go wrong writing them, but in no way should you feel bad if you don’t.
@“Jamieand Winthrop” do you have 2 kids applying/auditioning?
A thank you note is not likely to get you in, but it’s the polite thing to do, IMHO. If you don’t catch the names of the auditors, you can at least send it to the department office. And I do think there is something to be said for going that extra mile to let the school know if they are a “top choice” for you, especially if you land on a waitlist. All things being otherwise equal, who is more likely to be higher up on that waitlist: someone who auditioned but was never heard from again, or someone who sent a followup note after the audition expressing their real interest in the program? Just my 2 cents. We had notecards for my D printed up with photos of a few of her portfolio pieces on the front and a small headshot on the back. Hopefully those notes make it to her file and when decision time comes, they’ll be like “Oh, Yes. I remember her well.”
On a little bit of a different note, my husband does local interviews for his alma mater (not theatre, but an extremely prestigious school) and finds it both annoying and rude when he takes the time to interview an applicant and then never receives a thank you, either via email or snail mail.
Disclaimer: both husband and I were raised in the South, where etiquette is everything.
@momof2lefties my entire family is from Louisiana and it’s certainly a southern thing to do I get it! photo notecards sound fancy!
@actingdreams --fancy but not expensive from all of those websites that print Christmas cards/birth announcements/graduation announcements! We grew up in Georgia. D brings them to auditions and literally writes them in the car or hotel that same evening so everything is fresh in her mind.
My D has sent a thank you note for each audition. (And we are crusty New Englanders! Ha ha!!) She started with snail mail, and has since moved to email. The nice thing about email are the responses she gets back! Keeping those lines of communication open is fantastic. I recommend including something unique from the interview and/or audition to jostle their memory (not as nice as the headshot note cards - so amazing!).
There should be a clearinghouse of info regarding who the auditors are. Watching so many parents and kids asking “who was the auditor at so and so” is so funny (not funny).
We made it back to Massachusetts a day early to miss our impending storm - and now we have a snow day, blessings all around. I can’t wait to hear about all the good news our kiddos will receive in the weeks to come.
@ginaf1102 glad you got back in time. Snow day here, too, though mostly a thick coat of ice this time around. Relax and enjoy!
Hey! we just had the CMU audition. My S was passed to a Barbara (if that is her name) but he said that he’d go to UNSCA and PACE before he went to Carnegie Mellon. He also said that the vibe didn’t fit his soul ( ha ha ha) and he is sure that this is an Amazing school, He’s just not interested in it. I guess it pays to see if the fit is there outside of just applying. He’s had a pretty great experience so far. He’s auditioning for Emerson today and The New School tomorrow morning and we’re done!
Also speaking of my Karmic Experience, I see that a Wayne and Matthew both were auditioning my son on Monday They asked which department that he’d want to join (I’m assuming Acting-Theatre or Film/Tv) He had a choice Monday and they both said that they’d support his decision. He came home with both of their business cards.
So for now, he’s scratched off CMU and Boston because of the vibe (even if he were to have gotten in)… the fit isn’t there. If he’s accepted, I hope that his space would go to someone who really wants in at either of those schools. He would also choose UNSCA (as it seems like his current HS school is based off it ) over CMU and BU…He said that He’d even choose Pace in NY over them. I guess he doesn’t want Pittsburg either Our kids will find their tribe and be happy that they are there, wherever there may be BAL to everyone who on their final stretch of busy
