BFA Acting Pre-Screen and Auditions. Class of 2022 - Sharing!

@Rizzo2 cogratulations on your acceptances! Pace accepted my son on the spot and allowed him to choose which program. He was told to expect an award letter 1st week of March

Im sorry about the Juilliard thing and we missed each other. My sons UIC (safety)audition went over on Wed. Also, my sons drama teacher apparently is friends with an Ithaca auditor. They said not many boys auditioned for their program this year. Was this school another option? Cant wait to hear about his acceptances. All
Of these schools seem to be a luck of the draw right now. There is so much talent

@mychildsslave. I saw yor post after looking out at all of the snow that we received yesterday and cant help but giggle. I don’t blame your daughter. I’d be looking for surfing weather too!

@Rizzo2 pace varies a bit by program but BFA acting made calls to accept early March in the past. Then letters went out soon after. They may call to ask if your child has a preference on programs. Seems many who apply to more than one program get that call earlier.

@katew529 lol. Kids do interpret things wrong. Word to the wise -don’t let them interpret their financial award. They see the big number at the bottom only and don’t realize much it it may be loans the school so nicely “awarded” (not really an award at all, is it).

@myboy2000 I am sorry your son did not make the J callback weekend but it’s a huge compliment to get that far. I think our kids might have met at UNCSA audition. I’ll send a pm.

@bfahopeful yes! The financial award is most important and the scholarship can get you excited until you scroll down and see the balance :)). This happened with Pace prior to audition

Yes @actingdreams . And Pace’s was straightforward. Had a nice letter explaining it all. Still sticker shock to see you may owe a lot after scholarship.

Some schools bury the loan offers among scholarships and then put a big # at the bottom of the total award (including possible loans in that amount). So the “award” looks huge to a teen who may not realize that it is not all scholarship. This happened at a few schools including one where my D may or may not currently attend. (Wink wink).

Did everyone have a straight forward audition with Rutgers Mason Gross ? I read callbacks go out by the 20th or perhaps things have changed this year?

Query re below post I’ve copied from another thread:
Pace isnt an easy callback to get either. There are only 3-5 from most groups called back. Congrats on that callback!

Is this true in others’ experience? My D’s callback with Pace was reportedly much bigger (maybe 12?) but she said the auditor told them it had been unusually hard to cut the group, or something to that effect.

At least at that session, they also (contrary to website info) had the kids audition in front of reps from all 3 of their acting programs, so maybe that was driving the larger group size?

@actingdreams, maybe you could you tell us a little bit about what you mean by straightforward
as opposed to what? I’m curious.

@actingdreams , first, huge congratulations on the Juilliard weekend! We are all rooting for your son to get in! As to your question, this is the final weekend of Rutgers auditions, and their callback weekend is March 2-5, so I’m presuming they’ll notify people this coming week. My D auditioned there and it’s her “dream school” (along with UNCSA - she’s praying to get into one of those two), so she’s anxiously waiting on that one too.

Speaking of anxiety: my D got an email from Bill Poole at UNCSA asking for our apartment number - apparently her application only had the street address, so he needs the apartment number to make sure mail doesn’t get returned. My first instinct was “Oooh, UNCSA is about to mail her something! Maybe an acceptance?” But THEN I thought “No! This is BAD! UNCSA isn’t finished with auditions till Feb. 18, and then they make phone calls to accept people! So if they’re mailing D something now, it’s probably a rejection!” This is so stressful

@actorparent1 Agree, So freaking stressful.

@katew529 that was my post and I think about 10-12 total for the AM or PM BFA acting callback is probably average. Our experience was that within that AM or PM group they divided up into 2 or 3 subgroups for auditions and then within that subgroup maybe 3-5 were called back for the movement audition. But for the entire morning or afternoon block, it appeared that 10-12 is an average overall. I realize what I wrote is confusing. Sorry!

Our year the BFA actors had their auditions and callback just for BFA acting faculty. Sounds like that is different this year. Things change.

Sorry if I confused anyone. I just remember being kind of shocked as the callback lists went up and only 3-5 names were on it each time. :frowning: They posted as each subgroup finished and my D was in the last one to go so we watched it all. I hadn’t realized it would be such a deep cut out of each subgroup auditioning. Just offering congrats to those called back for BFA acting at PACE as it is an accomplishment. Many talented kids don’t get one.

@katew529 , when my D auditioned at Pace, there were two subgroups for BFA Acting. Out of the first group, 7 were called back; out of the second group, 3 were called back. So 10 called back in total. (I don’t know how many auditioned altogether.)

@katew529, she did like Michigan, it’s one of her top choices. Not sure how high it is on my list though, as it did take them 24 hrs. to get there (stranded in Phoenix til 2am and rerouted to Chicago) and 24 hrs. to get back (stranded in Chicago for the night without their suitcase

Holy wow, that’s amazing, congratulations!

My S is enjoying the Chicago winter (Cali kid  born and raised

@katew529 the Mason Gross one was really fast, about 10 minutes. They interviewed him more than reworking his monologues. If they are interested, they certainly wore a poker face. You’re right about Pace Callbacks. My son saw 7 doing the callbacks on Monday and they had a lot of auditions that day

@actorparent1 Thank you so much! I’m telling you, I’m more stressed than I was before all of this happened! I just booked our flight and it appears that I will be stressfully hanging out with my friends because he is with Juilliard all day and evening ( they provide all of the meals for them) so it looks like the Hours clocked are a typical day (up into 9-10pm at night) Hoping some of my close friends to take my mind off of things. Mason Gross was one of his top choices but after sitting in on UNCSA, he’d Love to go there as well. UNCSA is just an incredible program. I know that I’m dragging my AWE in support of that program but wow!!

I think Bill Poole is the nicest guy!! While scheduling, we chatted a lot about Jazz (I’m from KC,MO and the rest of my entire family are from/in New Orleans), food and Chicago
Nothing pertaining to their program of course but I can tell from his energy that He is part of that Magical school. I hope you get in wherever your top choice is. I have a feeling that our CC Tribe will get into at least one of our top schools. I can feel it and can’t wait to hear about it!

Thanks @Jkellynh17 I still can’t believe it. It’s hard to digest that it happened. I keep reading the email to confirm that it’s going to happen  then we have to start this entire thing over again and just wait to see if your kid is 1 out of 50
