BAL!
@laylamom What a great post. Yes, it helps to share the rejections too. We all know what a HUGE part of this business that is. Also, read everything with a grain of salt. I am not saying this about any of US, but one very knowledgeable coach we know has said, âyea, itâs amazing how many kids get ACCEPTED every year at Carnegie Mellon and donât enroll.â Point - donât always believe everything you hear. Especially at the audition floor. I am slightly afraid to engage with the other moms, even though I have found so many awesome stage families, there are some that make me crazy! I will probably be reading a book!
Hi there! My D has her first audition under her belt - BFA Acting at The New School. Everything about the whole process, including the application and pre-video uploads (not really prescreens), was super easy. She had her materials in early enough that they suggested early action. We arrived about 30 minutes early and were greeted by staff and current acting students. Everyone was super friendly, coming to sit next to my D and engaging in conversation. D said the audition went well. The auditor had her do her monologue and then had her do the same monologue as if she were âin the clubâ. My D enjoyed that. They also asked her about what is the greatest social challenge kids face today. It is The New School - we should have expected that. I have not read much about TNS here on CC but my D loves the non traditional nature of their program.
I am thankful and petrified that she auditioned Early Action, we should know before 12/1. If the outcome is good, what a great start for her. If the outcome is not so good, I fear she will have a black cloud over her until late March.
Looking forward to hearing about other auditions!
Complicated - definitely. Each school has different requirements. You canât squeeze a 2 minute monologue into 1 minute. Thus â they need a whole bunch of monologues. Similar to the live auditions. But getting all these videos done is yet another stressful chore.
Hello, how did it end up working with the TSU pre screen upload? It is one my son keeps pushing off because he is not sure what to do with the âextraâ intro etc. Did you edit the two monologues together and save one media slot for the intro? Any advice is appreciated:)
@frontrowmama My D applied to Texas State and we had some of the same questions. Ultimately we put the extended slate with superpower and âdolphin jobâ in a clip with her first monologue. Then we had the second monologue by itself in the other spot. I never got a definitive answer that this we the right way, but she passed the prescreen so I assume it was ok. Hope this helps.
@TNTheatreDad - haha, we did ours completely different, but also passed, so guess they didnât care!
S just received an email that he passed Chapman prescreen and weâre heading to his first audition at Emerson this weekend. Itâs getting real! Exciting and terrifying in equal measures.
An FYI on those waiting for Chapman: if you need Unifieds dates, they will be in NYC 1/20 & 1/21 and Chicago on 2/6.
@Naevia It really is getting real! Weâve been thinking about this for so long. BAL to your S this weekend at Emerson!!! Keep us posted.
Congrats to those who got good news from Chapman. My S is still waiting to hear, which is probably not a good sign.
@Twoboysandadog My S May have been lucky and had his prescreen reviewed in the first batch. Literally every audition slot in New York was still open when he got the email. Fingers crossed for your S.
Audition/Resume Question for today please. For Syracuse. It says bring resume listing all production including WHEN and WHERE? She has a nice looking resume that was vetted by coach, but do we have to go back and add Dates and Venue? Venue would be fairly easy, but would change it from 1 page to 2 pages. Dates would take a while, she has been doing theater for 5 years, a lot of shows, we picked the top 10-12 and left the rest off. I will TRY to do a longer version and bring along, but I Welcome any thoughts on this.
@FourStars I had emailed Syracuse about this resume and talked about it on a different thread. The response that I received was they do, in fact, ask for a theatrical resume including shows, dates and where (my D put with whom, as opposed to location). The person answering my email said it could also include anything else you wanted to include, but not necessary. I would recommend emailing the school, as I did. They were very helpful and quick to respond. I also heard from others who passed the prescreen that they just submitted their regular resume. So, I definitely wouldnât make it 2 pages, but maybe a nice looking 1 page. Coach may not have come across this specific request before. Call the school to be safe!
Put the resume on 1 page. Use Excel, use a smallish font (9 pt.), tight rows. There are 22 plays on my kidâs resume, readable without cheaters (reading glasses).
Got an email tonight from Chapman! Passed their prescreen.
My S just got the email from Chapman that he passed for screen acting. This was a nerve-wracking week!
@Twoboysandadog - HOORAY!!!
@Naevia My D has Emerson audition this afternoon as well. Tell your son BAL. I agree with you about exciting and terrifying!
Those of you auditioning today or someone who has already had auditions should start an Audition Experience thread. Even if you donât want to disclose personal information, an overall of the day would be great - we have 2 more weeks before Dâs first one. Break legs to all!
