Hooray @ginaf1102!!! Thrilled for both of you!!!
Congratulations for everyoneâs successes, and condolences to all the way too many heartbreaks. My D got a no from Florida State today. Letter. She spent the last two weekends going to shows at BA theatre programs to get a sense of the talent. It has been time consuming but worthwhile because it has helped her rank the BA programs she applied to. She also got the opportunity to talk to people in the departments - faculty and students - to get a sense of the culture, networking opportunities, and approaches to training. She is going to have a challenging time assessing BFA versus BA and costs and other factors. Hopefully, sheâll get a several choices to select among. At this moment she is sad and frustrated by all the rejections even though she has two successful audition schools with good scholarships. The next three weeks of waiting for acceptances and rejections will be very difficult for her and our family. As many of you have said, she and I have enjoyed the long car rides together, just talking. Each will find their own path.
Congratulations @ginaf1102 !!! Such a great program. So sorry @diamondparent . The highs and the lows are so close together. I think we have a week of waiting before we start hearing from any of the others. Hard for me to focus. Donât know how the kids do it.
Congratulations @ginaf1102!
does anyone know how long the waitlist for university of minnesota is?
@georgiad22 I canât tell you how many are on it but I can tell you that my daughter came off of it either on April 30 or May 1 last year. I think because of the location and cold factor, plenty of kids are scared off and choose to go elsewhere.
D1 came off the same time as @marg928 two years ago. I understand the wait list is 15-20 people but that is not from an official school source - it came from a parent of a current student.
@diamondparent Ugh, the pain these kids endure. And of course, their pain is ours too.
on a brighter note, what a smart way to spend these last couple of weekends!
HI everyone. I was a lurker for many months and decided to chime in. My S discovered his passion for theater late sophomore year. He gave up doing volleyball and football in a heartbeat. He is in all the school productions and currently is the lead in the Spring musical. His grades are mediocre. We applied to both MT and Acting programs for a total of 21 schools. He really wants a full university experience so he didnât apply to any conservatory programs. He has gotten accepted to Boulder MT (our safety) and Rider Acting so far. It was a No from Rutgers and Texas State (disappointing as the guy worked with him for over 20 minutes at Unifieds and texted him afterward thanking him for a job well done). We are in the midst of March Madness and it is excruciating. I cannot seem to focus and do anything at all. I get so excited reading about all the acceptances as I know how challenging this experience has been. I also get very sad when I hear of rejections. I am with all of you parents. No one understands this process unless you are involved in it. My in-laws and family/friends just donât get it. Anyway I am on this journey with you all and holding my breath waiting for that one program my son is excited for.
Hi, @HopeinMT. Welcome. We all started as lurkers! And we all needed to find people who understand. It is totally different than other college application process. So you have a lot to hear from. I am sending good mojo. It only takes one for a good match.
Welcome @HopeinMT! We are on a similar path too! My S has a couple acceptances and a couple rejections and now a waitlistâŠfrom a school that sounded like they were taking him. The one thing I have learned is that the auditions were not what they seemed and there is absolutely no way to judge what the outcome may be! Sorry about Texas State, that sounds like my sonâs audition as well. At least you have a defined answer and can move on! Hang in there!! We are all feeling similar here on this board and you have found the greatest group of parents ever!! Good luck!
Hi @HopeinMT ! I lurked forever before chiming in. This community has been priceless during this process, both for tons of great info and support.
My family and friends also donât get it - they think Iâm nuts for having him apply to so many schools and for being so stressed right now.
Sending good thoughts for your S to find the right fit!
