big brother has finally applied...Can I fill his shoes?

This is my brothers account as you may be able to tell in the title.. i'm working on getting a new email soon so I can have my own but until then I guess I am on this one.

Native American Male

Currently a Sophomore(TOO YOUNG TO BE ON HERE, I KNOW. but give me a break, jeez)

At a top 300 school in the nation..so they say

I have taken the psat-I don't remember my exact score, however, I know I recieved "higher than 75% of sophomores" on the two language arts sections, and higher than maybe 40% on the math section..Math is my weak point. I just took the PLAN test-sponsered by ACT so I am guessing they are somewhat similar. I thought it was REALLY easy. I know it is not near the caliber of the real ACT, however.

Rank(after last year)-Top 6%

Should be much higher as I kind of slacked freshman year. Got a 3.6...Currently making a 3.8ish but I am hoping to get a 4.0 this year. 4.0 Weighted last year and with all A's this year should be aiming at a 4.5w GPA. Got a 4 on the AP Human Geography Test.

My Hobbies? and Extracirriculars?

Tennis, Tennis, Tennis- National Ranking, State Qualifier freshman year, VERY competitive academy player- possibly looking at DIII tennis..I doubt I can play DI and there are not any DII schools that interest me.

Leadership-Thus Far
In a leadership class at school, attended stuco summer camp; will attend an advanced leadership camp this summer and the next summer I should be able to attend the national student council confrence-1 or 2 students from every school are selected. It is likely I will be able to attain a student council officer position next year..
Youth Leadership Organization in my City-You have to apply and get a few reccomendations
I am hoping to go to LEAD summer business institute sometime...

Volunteering @ a hospice-
very, very tough work...Devoted lots of time to this and I should be recieving 400-500ish hours by the end of high school. Does this stand out enough to be "recognized" per say as a passion? I know this is early but I should be able to get an AMAZING reccomendation from the person who directs my work.

I know its very, very early to tell, however early college preparation is a must in my family..Lots of factors have created this..

Forgot to add I am looking at some "Tier 1" Schools...

Nobody can really tell you anything without standardized test scores, sorry kid.

However, I can tell you one thing, you probably already know this. Native Americans are THE single most desired minority. Colleges want you, BADLY.

I wish I were Native American! You're very lucky.

yeah i know without the scores It is pretty useless but I thought I would see if I was doing alright..Im just trying to get some colleges in mind.

If you are really a NA; get 30 or 2000+, in at anywhere.

haha yes I am really a native american

helpful advice anyone?

?????????????????????

ahh bro, I'm in ur shoes right now, but I am a senior and not native american lol..
I'm a pretty competitive tennis player.. with a decent SAt's n splendid work and research n SAT ii's n Ap scores.. hard to balance.. so yea, get a decent SAT score.. top colleges will be wanting to suck you off bro.. dont wrry, ur set, just work hard! ;-) check out my thread if u want: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=400505

Yeah, balancing ANYTHING with competitive tennis is not an easy thing to do.

lol u kinda get used to it.. i mean, even if your not recruitable and not good enough to play the divisoin the school offers.. it is a major major plus on the college apps; it just says an awful lot about you..

you're fine.. u dont need to worry..

Thanks guys! I hope I do well on my standardized test's and in my math classes..those are the worries now haha

you're good to go, they love athletes. add in the na factor and you're the golden child.

but i only got a 191 on my first psat and the said i was higher than 95% of all testers, so that means your standardized testing needs major major renovation.

everyone does hospital volunteering, so unless you prove through additional activities(research at the hospital, intern with a doctor, become a sports trainer at your school, compete in those health science contests) that you actually give a care and really actually like health realated stuff, they'll skip right over it.

p.s.- know your culture. try to learn more about your people's history so you really make the school culturallly diverse. try to put that in your essay. for example, i'm putting the fact that every month i go to a bali tribe meeting with my parents (they're from africa) on my app. i'm also trying to learn some of the language...

good luck!
you remind me of me, but with tennis rackets instead of a color pencils...

Yes, I scored TERRIBLY low on my first PSAT. I'm curious to how much improvement I will have..I doubt it will be a large amount honestly. I considered studying, but as a sophomore the scores of the test mean nothing in terms of National Merit or really for applying to college. I need to study for my geometry class before I study for the PSAT, I think. I am pretty involved with my heritage, I will say that. I don't want to say too much because it is such a small community and its too small of a world..haha but
Hypothetically if my profile looked like this, what would you think?
2100
3.5uw Frosh Year 4.0w
3.8uw Soph 4.4w
3.8uw Junior 4.6w
and all 4's and 5's on the AP exams.
With
2090-2150 SAT
30-32 ACT?
Thanks!

Safe bet at Hah'vhd IMO

I wish emidac...
: )

You're Native American and nationally ranked for tennis. Go to Harvard, and be merry.

Thanks Sungchul.. It's a a pipe dream I guess.

however,
I am planning to get some college visits in order shortly, and was wondering If I would not be wasting my time visiting a few of these schools?

Amherst
Williams
Dartmouth
Harvard
Columbia
Georgetown
Stanford
Berkeley

Would these be reasonable schools and be worth a visit in the next year or so? Not that I will visit ALL of them, but I like I said, I don't want to waste money and time..

Yeah...though this isn't really encouragement for you to slack off, as long as you get above a 2000 SAT and have at least a 3.5, you'd probably be accepted at any university in the country. I'm not exaggerating that much either; Native Americans are, like mentioned above, the most desired minority population. You have to admit, you have hardly any competition against others of your own ethnicity. =P
