BIG DILEMMA!!!help x 100000

my college application is supposed to be postmarked by nov 1st.
however, careless me..didnt put enough stamps on the envelopes for the teachers & counselors. 2 envelopes were just returned to me, which i just mailed back so I'm not worried about that. I am worried about the other two ( teacher and counselor)...what if i dont get them back on time!!! OH NOOO!! wut should i doOOOoooOOOo??????????????????????/ I would have to have them back by tuesday morning!! (nov 1)

call up the school and tell them your situation. see how they react.

then, get the envelopes hopefully on nov. 1 and send them off again.

I agree. Either call or email the admissions office.

Then pray for speedy post service. :)

Or hope fervently, if you don't pray. :D

What does postmarked mean? Does the post office do something with the mail the day they get it? Do they ever postmark it after the day they get it?

For Early Decision, I have to send in an "ED Agreement Form", and the school says it must be returned by Nov 1 - what if I mail it out monday...would that be okay? What does "postmarked" mean? Thanks

Post offices stamp the envelope - usually over the stamps - with the date of the day the package is sent. Then the receiving post office should also stamp the letter with the date they received it. (It's a little annoying/cool realizing how long it takes for mail to be sent from one continent/country to another continent/country.)

So when I put my envelope in the mailbox...the post office picks it up and then postmarks it lets say "november 1st"..so that'll be good? Would I get a postmark that same day if I bring it to the post office instead of putting it in the "dropbox"?

It depends. If your school says "postmarked by Nov. 1", then you should be safe....It might also depend when the post is taken from the drop/mailbox. Best to drop it in there EARLY in the morning.

AS for postmark same day of post office vs. "dropbox", I don't know enough to say.

Since Monday is Oct. 31, I'd say that's the best bet to do it.

I live near Stanford, so if I'm worried about it not getting postmarked in time, would they mind if I just mosey on down and give it directly to the admissions office?

That, I think, is something to email them and ask about. If they say 'yes', then ask for explicit directions of which office and who to give it to, to make sure it reaches them and doesn't get misplaced.

(Love the phrase "mosey down"!!)

Parikhs, drop it in the mail Monday and you're ok. Or you may try moseying.

2h2h06, explain the urgency to the parties involved, hope they made copies that can be mailed Monday or Tuesday, let the school know what the situation is, and maybe mail photo copy of stamped/returned envelope if you are that worried. Adcoms are more understanding than most people give them credit for.
