Big Ten expansion moves ahead

"I think Big Ten should add Kansas, KSU, Mizzou and Notre Dame. Stay true to midwest. "

ND prides itself on its national and big-city appeal, and it’s very popular in the northeast. So as much as I love the Big 10’s wholesome Midwest image, I don’t think adding more Corn Belt schools will entice the Irish to join. Once Texas is officially not an option, the name of the game for the Big 10 is Notre Dame, and every move it makes will be to make itself more attractive to the Golden Domers.

Nebraska regents had unanimously approved to join Big 10

Cornhuskers will be playing BIG 10 schools by 2011

Big Ten Network will have the Nebraska press conference live at 6pm EST

Oh well, it’s Done (for now at least)!!! So much for Delany’s southern migration and President Simon’s academic prowess when considering conference expansion… Anyway, let’s just try to embrace our newest member to Big Ten!!! lol

Welcome to the Big Ten, Nebraska!!! lol~

Reading other college football message boards during all this jockeying is hilarious. Here’s some speculation from an aTm Aggie:

Too funny!

Smaltz, I get what you’re saying. However, the only thing that’ll get the Domers to jump is if they think they’ll lose their special BCS status and NBC contract as an independent. Big Ten will probably play its cards more conservatively…Pac-10 is moving to 16 and SEC now looks like it’s contemplating expansion. Notre Dame shouldn’t sit out too long or it may miss the train. My strategy for the Big Ten is to wait out, let all the other conferences expand and let ND get nervous.

Yeah. Too bad all of this can’t be taken back. It appears we will have to embrace Nebraska in 2011 when it’s all offical.

I’m not going to get into the online grammer discussion because it’s pointless. As for my post, well ofcourse many of the Big Ten schools are great in academics and will countinue to be recognized like: Iowa, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Illinois. Ofcourse the schools will be known for more than just football like: Iowa, Northwestern, Ohio State, Illinois. Though my post comes from being suprised that the Big Ten has went far fetch and invited Nebraska which I do not like. As always schools are far beyond and more than just their conference ( like Iowa) and so when the time come I will ( as a poster stated above) embrace Nebraska. Jeez… who know’s Nebraska might become a rivalry school for Iowa.

can somebody explain how much does academics matter in a colleges decision to join a conference? For somebody who doesn’t know much, it seems that it’s just for athletics. Are there any benefits academically of joining a conference?

By the way, Boise State is joining the Mountain West conference.

After adding Nebraska maybe the Big Ten has decided that there is enough western schools and will only look east.

Ofcourse there is much about academics in conference, most notable Ivy League. If you read, Nebraska has stated that not only is their decision to join the Big Ten an athletic advantage but also academically. This is just something you need to learn/research on your own.

well what exactly are the academic benefits other than association with a group of schools?

And the Ivy League is different, that’s not a Division I-A conference for football and they probably don’t generate millions of dollars in TV/marketing revenue every year.

So, your previous comments have no basis in fact and are entirely attributable to your personal opinion on the matter. Correct?

^
No it’s not all my personal oppinion. Due to the fact the schools are more and far beyond their conference ( Iowa) it’s much easier to embrace Nebraska ( which shouldn’t be in the Big Ten).

Could you please reword that? Thanks.

I’m watching the announcement from Lincoln on the Big 10 Network. Am struck by how deadly serious everybody looks. Looks more like a funeral than a wedding.

Pierre, here’s a link to a web site about the academic side of the Big 10: [CIC Home Page](http://www.cic.net/Home.aspx)

gotcha, do the Pac-10, SEC and ACC have anything like this?

“Could you please reword that? Thanks.”

You mean like in English or something resembling it?

I think it’s really cool that, for the moment, the Big 10 kind of has twelve members, and the Big 12 kind of has ten members.

To be fair, the Big XII is on its deathbed.

That would be great. I’d prefer Utah, but Kansas would be a better addition than A&M as well.
