Bike or walk?

So what's the preferred method of transportation in the college?

longboard, bike, walk

walking isnt that bad unless u have classes 10 minutes apart on opposite ends of campus

I walk it makes me feel healthier haha.

It's small enough to walk but big enough to bike?

yea, its small enough to walk if you dont mind walking. I walk everywhere

if you are going muir to warren (downhill) on a bike takes less than 3 minutes, going up hill on a bike takes a little longer.

warren to muir, uphill, takes me about 10 minutes walking at a moderate pace.

this should help: CampusMap

Your closest class will probably take 7 mins to walk to. Farthest could be up to 20 mins.

Yes it's big enough to bike. The only thing annoying about biking is navigating thru the crowds (as a biking friend told me)

Looking back, I think I should've gotten a bike. You probably won't use it all the time, but it's handy to have.

Just don't get one that's too expensive/fancy. Bikes get stolen.

if u have a bike... and u decide to live in a dorm, where would u keep your bike?

I got into Marshall btw if it makes any difference...

Thx

^ they have bike racks pretty close to every res hall.

Those get full so ppl tie their bikes to pretty much anything. Poles, trees, etc.

LOOOLLLL that seems pretty funny haha bikes can be the tree sitters of tomorrow :)....
ya thx jellybelly

I think I'll be walking everywhere. But maybe I can learn to skateboard and do that!

If you live on campus, it really depends on which college. Personally, I'm at Muir and I can get to all my classes well within 10 minutes just by walking. If I had classes at Warren [mainly Engineering classes], I would bike.

Also, if you have a nice bike, bring it up to your room. I've seen thousand dollar bikes cable locked to tiny trees before, which is just asking to have it stolen.

There are people on campus who steal bikes, so if you really don't want to lose it, lock it up right and don't leave it in any one place [like the racks] for too long. Most stolen bikes are crimes of opportunity rather than anything premeditated, so you could always just get a Really ****ty bike and lock it next to a nice one that's not locked up that well.

Any bikes you would recommend? I have a road bike and a mountain bike. My mountain bike is a bit small, though. Do most people have those cruiser type bikes?
Also, are there bike trails along the beach?

I got into Marshall, and I'm thinking about getting a bike. I'm likely to have a single room, so is it okay to have my bike inside?

Maybe I won't need it for all my classes, but I want to be able to bike somewhere is it's really far.

We can take bikes up to our rooms? I thought you get in trouble for that.

Lots of people do it. Just don't get caught and make sure your dorm/suitemates are cool with it first.

Could I bike to Pacific Beach/boardwalk? or is it too far?

you can look up the distance/path on google maps and compare that to your current biking capabilities? i've got friends who can't ride bikes and other friends who can ride >100 miles in a day ... hope you're somewhere in between :)

I used to be able to bike every day up hills, but I'm currently a little out of shape, haha.
It looks like its about 6 miles, which is no problem at all.

What's the crowd like for someone trying to take a longboard to class? And could you bring the board into the class? I'm not big on dealing with the hassle of bike locks.

people do that all the time... trust me. kids from my res hall and other warren kids are almost always skateboarding to classes, even to those at warren lecture hall. i see tons of kids in my chem class at york (all the way on the other side of campus) that bring skateboards to class and the same can be said about my other classes all over campus
