can someone tell me how the bicycling opportunities are at LU? Are there bike paths close to the school, or do you have to go some distance to get to one?

All I know is that there are a lot of bikes on the bike racks and places to store bikes in the summer and during the winter in the dorm basements.

I found this website - MapMyTri.com - Map your Triathlon Workouts: Bike, Run, Swim. Calorie Counter, Pedometer, Distance, and More.. It has a lot of good circuit routes for biking and running in Appleton and other cities.

I think that there is also a state bike trail that goes through Appleton - around 22 miles long.

This sort of relates to the topic; does anyone know of any good camping sites near Appleton? I know High Cliff State Park has camping, but are there any others in proximity?

any LU students who have a 'street level' knowledge of how accessible the bike paths are from campus? does one need a car, for example, to tote the bike to the path?

And, yes, I second kawishiwi's question on proximity to camping from LU. Quite in the spirit of the OP. D likes biking and camping. LU lies in the 'great north woods' - literally. d just wants to get a sense of how accessible biking and camping are to LU.

I asked my daughter if she would like a bike. She said it was kind of a waste since there are really only 2 months a years the weather would be nice enough to ride. I guess it depends on how hardy you are.

Good point about the limited timeframe for biking. But to see all the options, I did find this info. Not sure how far these trails are from LU. A candidate trail - since LU is on the fox river-, the fox river trail, seems to go thru st norbert, with no mention of appletonn.

here is the link the poster made above with appleton filled in (at first I did not get how to work the site)

for any other one who might be interested in LU and biking, here are maps by county. LU is in outagamie county.

Wisconsin county bike maps - Wisconsin Department of Transportation

It looks like there is a 9 or so mile bike path that one can get pretty near to LU called the CE path or the Newberry path. Look between 47 and 441 at the south end of the outagamie map. Neither LU nor Appleton are marked on this map.

Actually, here is a question: is there a LU bike club? they would know about this stuff intead of hunting and pecking like this.

there does not seem to be any listed on the LU web pg

Edit: On second thought, you know who would really know? The local bike shop where I bought my bike. They are like 6 blocks from campus.
