Just hopped over from the parent cafe, where there is a discussion of best bikes for college. My S will be attending Vanderbilt in August and was just curious, are bikes in or out of favor? I assume students store them outside their dorms, is it a high theft item?

During the SAOP, the SAOL orientation leader answered that exact question. There are only few people riding bikes to class. Most of the students just walk. In one of the towers, there was a little more than a dozen bicycles in all during my visit.

I heard theft is common. I thought about bringing bicycle before, but I changed my mind.

Thanks, your answer was very helpful. I didn't see many bikes when we were there but I wasn't sure if that was because it was summer.

theft is not common with bikes, i dont know who said that. but the kids who ride their bikes on peabody are annoying. bikes are fine as long as they are not used during peak hours to go to class
