Do you ride a bike around campus, and if so, how has it been? Is it a faster way to get from place to place? How many people ride bikes?

As a walker, I am strongly against bikes. I've almost been sideswiped many a time. Unless you are a blair student, you'll be fine without one.

S took a bike his sophomore year so he would be able to ride to Peabody to visit friends. His dad bought him a big orange (ugly- think UT) bike for his birthday before he went back to school and it was stolen within a month despite being locked.

There are people steal at Vanderbilt? Why...?

Probably some bum from Nashville.

Well, I'll be living in the commons- which is past Peabody from what I understand...

The commons is part of the Peabody campus and while it is some distance from certain parts of campus, the entire campus is very walkable--

As a person who tried riding a bike for about a week, I'd advise against bringing one if it's difficult to manage. When you want to use a bike (getting to and from class, for the most part), the sidewalks are so crowded with people that it ends up not being much faster and you annoy people by wanting to pass them. The only time a bike is really useful is if you're using it during "off" times when there aren't many people around (think a late-night trip to the library or during summer) or to get to places where there aren't big crowds (places not on main campus like for volunteering at the hospital or going to the rec).
