On my Oasis page under my 'Current Billing Balance' the following fees are listed. Can anyone explain what each of these fees are for, and whether or not we necessarily have to pay them? For example, one of the fees is for the health insurance (I haven't listed that), but obviously if a student has an insurance waiver this fee will also be waived. Also, when will my financial aid be calculated into this online system?
Thanks! =)

The Student Health Center charge ensures access to the health center on campus. I would imagine this is required for students as well.

The Student Programming Fee supports activities and programs via the Student Senates $2.1 million annual budget. Much of this money goes towards the Program Board, which arranges the popular Springfest and Troy Week concerts and festivities. Funds are also distributed to various student organizations. $145,000 also goes to pay the salaries of the staff members, including $10,000 for the senate president.

I dont know what the undergraduate service fee is for, but its most likely required as well.

The Tuition Refund Insurance promises to refund all of your tuition and fees should you become sick or injured mid-semester and be forced to withdrawal from your classes. However, it doesnt cover much else and may not be worth it. This is an optional charge, and I believe you can opt-out when you finalize registration for your fall classes.

I would imagine that you will see the scholarships and grants come into play when the $16,000 charge for the fall semester posts. I don't know if aid covers these smaller fees.

Hmm i only have -300 dollars from the commitment deposit... I'm guessing i don't have anything else because i didn't attend any of the orientations?

It takes them a while to get everything processed. I had one scholarship that was from a private donor through the school of architecture that didn't come in until October one year because the donor had pledged a yearly contribution but hadn't actually written the check yet! Anyway, USC scholarships and grants are released at a certain date, other scholarships establish their own dates, so just be patient with that. I wouldn't worry about scholarships not showing up until a lot closer to class time.

Yea I second the question about the Orientation fee. I thought we paid for that when we signed up for an Orientation session...I mean we did give them our credit card info at that time...?

The MANDATORY Orientation Fee of $140 is for the week of activities around move-in day & is different from the additional amounts we pay to attend any orientation session--confusing because similar label tho. ALL freshmen HAVE to pay it.

The Student Health fee IS mandatoryfor all students--only the supplemental health insurance can be waived out of if you fill out the waiver form & provide USC with satisfactory proof of medical insurance.

You can opt out of the Tuition Refund Insurance, but it is highly recommended that students pay it "just in case" things come up that require them to drop out, such as medical crisis or other unexpected events.

I believe money awarded by USC will be posted in August. At Orientation, they gave us a form that listed the merit & FAid awards they were giving each student. We're relying on that in making our budget & figuring out how the payment plan (where we pay an amount every month for 10 months). They said if you sign up for the payment plan, at the beginning of each semester, they credit you as if you have already made all 5 payments for each semester.

Actually, if your tuition is 100% paid by scholarship, you MIGHT think so, but perhaps if you have Tuition Refund Insurance, the insurance would pay & allow you to defer your scholarship until you re-enroll. Might be best to check with the party awarding the scholarship. Anyway you look at it, $13K+/semester + room & board is a LOT of money!
My child got a presidential scholarship but we're still opting for the Tuition Refund Insurance "just in case." We were encouraged to get tuition refund insurance.

I signed up for teh Trojan meal plan by checking the box on the housing papers. But I was billed the Cardinal Meal Plan on my OASIS for some reason. Blah...have to go change it now >_<

Yeah, I checked the box too, but I was given Cardinal. Our housing isn't on the bill yet, so I guess by the time that's on there, the Trojan will be too. shrugs

You guys don't need to worry about the meal plan. The same thing happened to me last year. I think they bill everyone for cardinal at first, then they go back and check for the people who opted for Trojan, take Cardinal off their billing balance and then add Trojan.

Does anyone know, will the bill that's due to be posted online by 7/21 reflect all credits, such as our housing deposit, and all amounts due for room and board as well as tuition?

Part of our funding for this year will be via a private loan, but we can't make a decision on the exact amount and get it going until we have definite figures in front of us. (We've got a rough idea of the amounts, of course.) I'm getting kind of anxious about it as we want to be sure the loan is processed and funds in plenty of time.

The credits for amounts we paid are definitely all there. Any merit aid will NOT be posted -- I believe it doesn't post until sometime in August, but you can check with the Student Financial Services or toll-free cashier's office.
