Do I have to pay for all these?

My billing statement was soooo confusing...and I think it was wrong...

yea same here :P

Student Health Center fee is mandatory. It covers costs so that you can go to the health center to see a doctor (when you need to).

Student Programming Fee is probably for one of your classes that you registered for. There are fees associated with different classes.

The Tuition Refund Insurance is supposed to be optional; it guarantees that your tuition will be refunded if you are unable to attend classes due to say an accident or something of that sort. You choose to add it during registration; I had refused it when I registered, but they still added it to my bill. I'm sure that the cashier's office will fix that if asked.

where do i find my billing statement?

i went to uscard website ... and current billing balance = 0.00 ... i dont get it

METHOD 1
www.usc.edu/epay

Click on LOGIN, enter USC ID and Password is your birthday in MMDDYYYY format. Then click Continue under the "Important Fall 2005 Information" message, then click on statements.

METHOD 2
Log into OASIS, and click on Current Billing Balance.

yah i see it .. this is kinda confusing and it looks expensive too!ahahahahahahahahahah

lol ahhaahhahaha? you sound delirious :)

okay i have the subsidized stafford loan and on my bill it says "FAO Deferment until 9/25/05" anybody know what that means?

It's all insane, I spent like hours on hold on the phone with them last week trying to figure this stuff out. If you have questions about your bill, call Financial Services, not Financial Aid, which was my first mistake. Here are some answers...

A DEFERMENT is what you need to have for any money that you are expecting, but which is not in your account by the due date 8/19. If you do not have a deferment, then you will be hit with a $100 PER WEEK late fee, whoa. (They claim you can get late fees reversed once they get the money, on stuff like loans and late scholarships, but who wants to deal with that?)

FAO DEFERMENT means that the Financial Aid Office has given you an automatic deferment, which allows until 9/25 for them to get the money for your loan. They told me that the money for Federal Loans for freshman is delayed 30 days, which is some govt regulation. So they give you an AUTOMATIC deferment on Stafford Loans.

You still need to go to that "Entrance Counseling" meeting for your loan, but they still delay it 30 days.

Any SCHOLARSHIP MONEY they do not receive by 8/19, you need to ASK FOR a deferment for. Those deferments are NOT AUTOMATIC.

To access your bill, if you can stand the shock of seeing it, set up an account on E-pay, METHOD 1 above from redski59. If your parents are paying your bills, you need to also set up Guest Accounts for them on Epay. This allows them to access your Financial records, so they can pay your bills!!!! Otherwise USC says all your records are private, and they won't even give your bills to your parents. Well, unless you fill out a BUCKLEY WAIVER Form, which is another stupid Federal Govt form that tells USC that you allow your parents to access your records.

OK, let's get more confused.....
I think your USCard account is totally separate from your billing statement. Your USCard is like your Student ID card, but you can put money on it to spend on campus. That is called "discretionary money", and I guess that is what your USCARd Account shows. Your meal plan is on that card too, so they swipe it when you go to the cafeteria. But if you want to buy stuff like coffee or something at the bookstore, they swipe your card and the money comes out of your discretionary (extra spending) money you have to put in your USCard account.

Check your meal plan....some meal plans give you automatic extra (discretionary) money on your USCard, check out what your meal plan is. Cardinal Meal Plan gives you 10 meals per week, but they also stick like $500 extra on your card. I think you lose that money at the end of the semester if you don;t spend it all, but I don;t think spending it will be a problem! They said that "discretionary" money you stick in your account DOES roll over to the next semester, unlike Meal Plan discretionary money, which cancels at the end of the semester.

If you spend hours on hold on the phone, they will tell you all this stuff! I started calling them when I looked at my bill on July 21, and it said I owed like a million $'s on July 22! They said No, that date was a mistake, the due date is August 19. But actually they did not say it was a mistake, they said it was the "incorrect default". (huh???) Ha, I guess they don't make mistakes.

I don't think they ever asked me if I wanted the optional Tuition Refund Insurance, even though they say they ask you when you register. It is to get your tuition refunded if you drop out of school due to a serious accident or illness. I don't want it, but they charged me for it anyway.

To cancel it, fill out the e-mail form at
http://www.usc.edu/dept/finserv/sfs-faq/query.htm
scroll down to Tuition Insurance, mark that box, and in the notes below tell them you want to cancel it. In a few days the Cashier responds that they cancelled it.

thanks a lot permier13! if u find out more stuff, let us know ;)

sorry, but I am not calling them ever again!

Thanks premier for the info on cancelling tuition insurance! I'm not wasting my $66 or whatever it is!

yea i just emailed them through that website saying that i dont want the tuition refund insurnace. yay. Now its minus 65.00 on my billing list! :)

Sorry, but don't get too happy yet. The reply I got back last Tuesday said "THE TUITION REFUND INSURANCE HAS BEEN REMOVED" but it has still not been credited to my bill. Wonder how long that will take?

it took me less than a day when they removed it. i even got an email saying it was. i checked my billing statement and it was subtracted.

but i checked again(2 days later) and they put it back on!!! grrr...are they trying to be sneaky? :(

k i sent them another email, now it has been subtracted. yay.

Before you guys asked the tuition insurance to be removed, did your billing statement list part of the thing as paid? I didn't want it and didn't pay for it, but it lists $0.94 of it as paid... O_O
