I found it very disheartening when I received a letter in the mail from the office of undergraduate admissions. The letter stated that because of the strengths reflected by my academic record, I exceed the academic eligibility guidelines required to participate in EOP and, therefore, would not be considered for admission through that program. My academic record in my personal opinion, is not strong, and if I am placed into the regular freshman admission pool, I know for a fact that because my academic record is not strong I will not be as competitive academically for the regular freshman admission process. How strong can my academic record be to exceed guidelines? But weak enough for regular admission? If this is the case where do I fall and how can I possibly gain acceptance?

Did anyone else get this letter??? I want to call them and ask WHY :'(

I actually received my acceptance letter at Binghamton under the EOP program today, and i have to say that i am pleased. What it takes to be an EOP student? Like you said, it is very unfortunate when your grades are right above the eop standards and right below the regular admission's standards. Mine, luckily, was right on the spot; 85 average with 1060SATS (reading and math only). Im not sure if binghamton's your first and only choice, but you should also apply to other SUNY schools under the eop program as well: such as buffalo, geneseo, and stony brook. I've been accepted to all 4 schools so yes, thats the jist of my grades, which also includes 2 essays, 1 personal and 1 eop autobiography. The only advice i can give you is to just go for the regular admissions although it may too late about now? Tell me how it goes.

EOP is known as the "Educational Opportunity Program". Basically this program enables students who are academically and economically disadvantaged due to such low family base income that gave them no chances to receieve extra education from tutors, afterschools, and such. If your family has a low salary, then you should give it a shot.

hahahha wordd. financially im fit for it, but academically scores are too high. this is stupid. everyone who is poor could always be doing better. even if their grades are good. how the heck could i be overqualified for a poor program?

yeah, that sucks. When i was taking the SATS i had the mentality to try to do worse than usual so i can fit EOP standards. What a pain in the ass.

i got eop reject letter too....omg...my SAT scores are low...and my gpa is not good as well....i guess it is my toefl scores. i have a high toefl score...omg..omg...i feel so desperate....cuz i really really want to go to binghamton..
