@pjps1969
I think the “guarantee” would only mean the student can definitely apply for transfer. Don’t see that as guarantee of SOM to accept the student after Freshman year.
Congratulations to your son receiving the “alternative” offer! My son wanted to click the button in the portal by the way, but I told him just to triple checks.
Hey, So i got an email saying they would like to consider me fore Harpur did you get this email or did you get a straight acceptance into Harpur. I applied to SOM and got an email saying this today.
@pjps1969
I would take it as a GUARANTEE he can transfer to SOM if he maintains a 3.5 GPA. Not difficult for your son because he has the guarantee in writing. Students from Harpur without that guarantee may have over a 3.5 GPA but still can’t transfer due to space limitations (and that’s where you read that it is difficult to transfer).
OK, finally got a hand on the exact wording on the email that was received yesterday… By reading this, I would say a “straight acceptance” into Harpur.
"We are unable to offer you admission to the School of Management at this time. However, given the strength of your application, we are still very interested in having you attend Binghamton University and we have an opportunity for you to consider.
We would like to offer you admission to Binghamton University’s Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, with a guaranteed option to transfer to the School of Management for the fall of 2021 semester, assuming you meet the following conditions:"
{skipping the list of conditions}
“To take advantage of this opportunity, respond by January 14, 2020 by logging into the status checker… and completing the form on your checklist.”
@CollegeMom202x yes that is the exact wording of my son’s email too and I interpreted it the way @borgdoctor said…that if he met all the requirements he was guaranteed a place at SOM in his soph year. I guess maybe we will email the school directly for the correct interpretation since multiple people have interpreted it differently! Just FYI my son’s gpa was on the lower side too (3.8 weighted) with 1410 SAT but very accomplished in other ways (plays 3 varsity sports and high-level clarinetist). I’ll let you all know what we find out!?
is everyone waiting getting rejected at this point? i haven’t heard yet (1310 SAT 29 ACT, 95 GPA, officer of multiple national organizations, works two jobs, in-state, 10 APs, EA)
My son got into Harpur last night - he received an e-mail at around 7:30 that there was an update to his status & then went into portal
We are in state - He had a 32 ACT, 91.5 Avg, lots of sports & community service and a few APs and College classes with St. John’s
So happy for him - it was his first choice and I was getting extremely anxious
Today the test score link disappeared from my son’s status.
Tonight, he got accepted to Harpur Undecided.
Weighted GPA 92.6
ACT superstore 30
2 AP’s, 3 college courses
A lot of EC’s
Community Service for 3 years
Accepted students day is so late in the process…wondering if it’s just better to go during one of the regular campus tour days earlier in February to have a second look.
