@borgdoctor I reached out to admissions. They said that ALL students are considered for the merit scholarships, so I guess just not OOS applicants.
Has anyone received any merit scholarships yet?

@hosbrook41 thatâs interesting to hear the admissions dept tell you that but that would not be the historical norm for binghamton. If you read through the entire class 2023 thread which is the most recent you will see that even the best OOS students only got around $5000 merit aid since the tuition is so cheap already. And the instate NY students got nothing. But, who knows maybe Bing is feeling more generous this year or they have extra endowment scholarships that were established recently that we donât know about. Good luck!
We are OOS and got $8000 merit for Watson. No word on honors, etc.
Has anyone received a financial aid package yet?
I am wondering the same thing. I have been looking for it for the last few days. Should be anytime now.
Binghamton is my daughterâs first choice but unlike Albany, Buffalo and New Paltz where my daughter has been offered $5,000 in merit aid, so far nothing offered from Bing. Waiting to see what the financial aid package will look like.
Daughter just received an additional $2500 a year Academic Distinction Scholarship from Albany that can be applied towards residence hall fees. So thatâs $7500 a year from Albany. And that $7500 can be applied toward room and board after the Excelsior scholarship covers tuition.
But Bing has a 4 + 1 secondary math education program while Albany and New Paltz do not. So that will be one less year of schooling towards earning her masters degree. That is something to definitely take into consideration.
My son was offered fairly significant scholarships from every other SUNY school but nothing from Binghamton.
Ultimately, even though it cost more, Bing was just the right choice for him - he is thriving and SO happy there.
Yes, I bet many parents on here could say the same thing. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Just checked my portal and the area to submit further standardized test scores has disappeared. From what I read in the past, that indicates another wave of decisions will be released tonight. Best of luck to all!
Yes that is the same for my daughter. She received 10k for non-tuition costs from UB. Bing is top choice as well and we will make it work. I kind of get the feeling if it wasnât in the offer accepted packet they arenât getting anything scholarship wise. We shall see!
Just accepted to Harpur! In-state, full IB student with 3.8/4.3 GPA and 33 ACT. Congrats to all others accepted and good luck to those who have not yet heard!
So Iâm not the only going through this. Just got a preliminary financial aid package from SUNY New Paltz in the mail today. Gives me an idea of what our costs will be for Binghamton. Hereâs hoping we might get some sort of scholarship but like you said it is usually offered in the acceptance letter.
Congratulations!
havenât heard back and iâm getting worried. applied to harpur with a 1230 sat and 3.82 gpa
They changed the financial aid date from mid Feb to end of Feb on website. Also waitingâŠ
Financial Aid notification received today - it is in BU Brain
Just got ours too. Such a hard decision. So much less to go to other SUNYs where we received scholarships. But hard to turn down Bing. But since daughter wants to be a math teacher and can study that anywhere . . .
Got Financial Aid notification todayâŠas expected got no scholarships from Binghamton. They know that they are the best overall SUNY so no discounts are needed to attract in-state students.
My daughter was accepted to Watson Engineering in early December last year. Just recently she received an email about her financial aid. Not a penny in scholarship. SAT 1530, 800 and 760 in subject tests in math and chemistry, unweighted GPA around 4.0, weighted GPA around 5. Captain of the varsity tennis team for the last 3 years, Vice president of her student body, lots of service activities in the NYS around our town, has been attending international medical mission trips. Works part-time jobs as math tutor, lifeguard at out town swimming pool and baby sitting. Breaks her and our heart to hear the OOS students with similar or lower credentials receiving several thousands of dollar scholarships when parents paying NYS taxes for years donât get a penny for their kids. I know NY state colleges gives instate status to OOS students after a year, do they get to keep their scholarships too? So unfair. She gets a high school merit scholarship of $1500 towards any NY state college for 1 year, my wife and I being state governmentt employees qualifies her for a $1000 college expense reimbursement each year. Middle class folks like us who make just enough to not qualify for the free tuition and not making enough to pay the full expenses suffer the most. The NY state college system is so screwed up.
Has anyone checked on NYS STEM Incentive Program yet? Itâs for NY state residents. They said they will cover SUNY tuition if the students are top 10% in high school.
Yes checked into it, you have to work in NYS for 5 years after you graduate, you can defer after Masters, PHDâŠbut not sure DS will be offered a job in NYS? What do you think?
