Binghamton or purdue university?

Hi,

Right now, I am trying to decide which of those schools are better for psychology and biology. I would love to go to a liberal arts school like colgate or vassar but they are just too expensive for me ($40K with housing?!). I could definitely see myself in those schools, yet I would not feel confortable putting such financial burden on my parents. Now, I now binghamton is very affordable(and tution is an important factor for me), but should I choose purdue or University of Washington over Bing(SUNY)? I don't get much financial aid, and am out-of-state, so we are talking about $10K difference between tuitions compared to a SUNY school. But is the extra money worth for my intended majors? I may also consider business/accounting in the future

Thank you and any comments are apprecited.

Purdue has a much stronger name throughout the US. Binghamton is the "best" of the SUNY schools, though it is suffering big time in the rankings and student body satisfaction. It might be worth the extra bucks at Purdue.

U Washington is nicer than the other two--and better.

yes, but can anyone elaborate if there is a big difference among those majors at binghamton and the other two?

SUNY Geneseo is just as good or better than bing, way prettier and with happier people, and is modelled after liberal arts schools. I don't know about the programs there, but if you want a suny tuition and a liberal arts school, check out geneseo.

thank you very much clendenenator, i will definitely check it out!
meanwhile, can someone else comment?

Try one of the EFC calculators on the web to estimate how much Colgate or some other private LAC would really cost after financial aid. I doubt that you would actually have to pay 40K per year out of pocket.

Of the three, definitely U of Washington. But if you want Colgate, then definitely go for it! Somehow the money will be there. Don't hold back your wishes and dreams for a couple of bucks; you'll pay a higher price later on. Apply to Colgate and if you're accepted, figure out the money & loans then. You'll be much happier there than "settling" for something else.
