bio exemption

Hey, I'm a freshman going to CALS and majoring in molecular/cellular biology. I got a 5 on the bio AP in 11th grade which means that I'm exempted from intro courses. What do people exempted from intro bio usually take? I don't seem to be qualified yet to take other required courses for my major (eg. organic chem) but I would really like to take something related to my major, and preferably something related to bio since I didn't take any bio courses last year.

Also just for general information my other classes are going to be chem 2150/2160, math 1110/1120, and the writing seminar.

i was in a similar situation.

cornell bio website recommends that even with a 5 that you take the first semester of intro bio lecture/lab to make sure you are comfortable with cornell bio or whatnot. so i did that and ended up taking the second semester as well, despite my original plans of taking no intro bio whatsoever.

you could take bioee 2780 evolutionary bio, although supposedly either its not open to freshmen 1st semester or you need permission - not sure. you could also take one of the 1-credit bio seminars intended for people like you with AP 5, or you could just take no bio at all.

Out of the general bio requirements, evol. bio is probably the easiest. You can also take something like Bio 290 microbio (which should fulfill part of your molec/cell bio requirements). I’m only suggesting bio 290 because it was probably the easiest bio course I had at Cornell.

I would agree with norcalguy. Microbio was one of the easiest and most enjoyable science classes I took at Cornell. If you go that route, I also suggest you take microbio lab.
