Bio Honors or AP Bio Before Taking SAT II?

Hi, I am a freshman in high school. I am currently taking honors bio and and I am getting an A+ (99.5). I would say that this school is somewhat competitive, and classes arent easy to get A's in. My point is, if I continue these grades throughout my Bio Honors course through the end of the year, is it a good enough background on biology to take the SAT II? I was thinking maybe if I got it out of the way freshman year, my high school years wont be as stressed as opposed to taking it after AP bio? If I get a book (Barrons, maybe) to study from will there be too much to learn for the SAT II test? Anyone make a similar decision before??

BIo Honors in 9th grade should be enough too get a decent score on the SAT II in May/June. I did the same thing in ninth and ended up with a 660 w/ minimal studying on the Bio-E test.

So yes it can definitely be done. Just study

Definitely could be done. All of my friends got at least over 700 with regular Bio (no honors at my school) and the PR book. Try reading the PR book along with your bio course throughout the year, and go from there when the test date gets closer.

I took AP bio and then a month after the AP I just went through Kaplan and all the major topics and got a 790 on Bio M.

Even if I was just in honors, I think the test would still have been easy (AP just teaches you excess detail over the basics...which is what the SAT tests). Best thing was that the material was fresh in my mind...not from freshman year or anything.

definitely do-able. I'd try to get as many sat ii tests out of the way. If you do one frosh, 2 soph, and your two best in junior year, you can have 3 great scores and 2 eh scores...so, yes, DEFINITELY take it ...

not to mention, you won't be half as stressed as in junior year/pressured to make the test your best.

I got a 780 in 9th grade by doing only honors

You would definitely be able to do it and get a great a score but if ur aiming for a really high score and plan on taking AP Bio, you may just want to wait. But im sure with enough prep you can do very well.

PR book is good

Would you guys recommend a specific test after taking Honors Biology? E or M? I am leaning towards M.

I'll have to say M as well. My honors bio class didn't cover ecology/evolution very well, and even in my AP class we didn't do most of that stuff until near the end of the class.

ask your teacher if s/he covers enough material for the Subject Test. Not all HS curriculums do. If you know you will take AP Bio, I'd wait until then since the studying is the same.

yeah it can definetely be done, and i d say its kinda better to take it now, one thing though you MUST buy a prep book--i recommend barrons-- becasue alot of the material covered on the test usually is just random and not covered in the class (not even AP covers the random stuff, so it doesnt really make a difference).

i took it after honors bio, and a week of cramming. and i got a 740. i knew i wasnt gonna end up taking AP BIO. physics is better

oh and DEF. buy a prep book

I'm going to take Bio. M. I looked through the "Sat II Biology for Dummies" preparation book, and I knew about 95% of the "M" material. Suprisingly, every single bit of it was covered in my class, and we haven't even finished yet. :)

so what material is covered more comprehensively in bio honors? should i take e or m?

E is said to be easier but personally i felt M was a breeze. are u better in the cellular field or into plants, fungi, etc?

cellular field, so i guess m..
