Bio majors and pre-meds: Post your sample schedules here!

Because I am also a pre-med, I am wondering how a sample schedule for pre-med students would look like in a given semester. Current pre-med students at Cornell, can you please post your current schedule, along with the professor that teaches the course and a objective course difficulty evaluation?

Your question is very broad... each pre-med student follows his/her own path. Have you seen this link? Premed Profiles for Cornell Students

my spring term will be a relaxing term. gonna take more classes sophomore year

bio 101 - 3
chem 207 - 3
nutrition - 3
freshman writing seminar - 5
bio lab 4/5

most premeds take their freshman year: gen bio + lab, gen chem + lab, freshman writing seminar, phys ed, and math or an elective (most likely a requirement for their college)

soph year: orgo, math if they didn't take it freshman year, and starts their major track

junior year: physics, higher level major classes

senior year: electives that you want to take, senior seminars, finishing any requirements for your college and major.

I think it might be helpful for the OP if people put down their college/major along with their schedules. AnbuItachi, are you a nutritional sciences major in Hum Ec?

I don't really mind what path/track you're following. I'd just like to see how people have constructed their schedules if they are majoring in biological sciences. It would be helpful if you could put down your college and major too.

So looking at the first schedule thats been posted, people typically take 7-8 classes a given semester? Is it best to take these in the afternoons/night and save the morning for sleep and studying?

a typical person takes 4-5 classes for anything from 14-17 credits. its abnormal to take more than that. i personally think that instead of taking extra classes a semester, its better to join an organization on campus and take a leadership role.

Hi Cornell2012... that's the reason why I suggested mentioning the college and major - because, my understanding is that you are interested in the bio/pre-med schedules and I think by looking at the posted schedule it appears to be a Hum Ec/Nutrition major.

The great thing was that I was now able to take the MCAT (which I took in the summer b/w my sophomore and junior years). Halfway through my college career, I had a 3.85 GPA and a MCAT score so the last two years were smooth sailing. In fact, I was so bored my senior year that I worked 3 part-time jobs. It was definitely nice to be relaxed as a senior.

im a HBHS major

Biological Sciences major in CALS, program of study in microbiology and a minor in nutrition... i'm not premed though and never was

I started with AP credit in calculus, bio, english, american history and european history

AnbuItachi: Great choice! HBHC is an innovative program and an interesting tract for those interested in pursing a career in the health professions. By the way, if your intro Bio professor is Charlie Walcott you really lucked out! Have you chosen a major in the HBHC division?

Sorry- typo - It's an interesting "track"! Oops!

I used AP credit for both writing seminars. Note that some pre-med students delay physics until their junior year, which is fine so long as you're not planning on going abroad. Also, with this schedule, you can, like me, be ready for the MCAT the summer after your sophomore year.

Great stuff! Keep it coming.

If you are in the CALS, are your elective options more limited than CAS?

e.g. can you take the same amount of classics, anthropology, literature, whatever courses being a CALS bio major as you would as a CAS bio major?

no because classics anthropology and literature are departments in CAS and as a CALS major you can only take 55 endowed credits. you have to take 55 CALS credits though so most people take the crosslisted classes or classes like the one in CAS

ex. taking DSOC 101 instead of SOC 101, AEM 210 instead of PAM 210, etc.

obviously you can take some endowed classes, but most people find themselves trying to get the required amount of CALS credits

There is a limit to the amount of electives you could take in the endowed schools, especially since Chem, Orgo, and Physics were in CAS and counted for the 55 endowed credits (FYI you can take more, but will have to pay extra in the end if you go over). All the biology classes, microbiology classes, and nutrition classes counted as CALS credits. I think I couldve taken 2 or 3 more classes in the endowed schools, but I just like science so much that I would rather take all science classes anyway.

Is there an advisor that will help pre-med/pre-dental students set up their schedules at the beginning of freshmen year?
