Do I have to know the names of important people (i.e. Meselson and Stahl) and what they did? Is that ever even tested on the SAT II?

bumppersss…

No, I don’t think so. I never had a q with that…

wat about the specific phylums? (like what each phylum encompasses)

yes there was question the answer was miller

See, for phylums, yes they may ask you direct questions. On this exam, they asked us an application question and the answer was that chicken and lizards are most closely related. For this, you would have had to know how close they are on evolutionary terms. Read Barron’s and PR and you should be covered

Ok thanks for the info

How about specific types of plants? i.e.bryophytes

^ Yes, knowing plants helps a lot. Just like on the AP test, they tie in plants. They might ask you which plant lacks vascular tissue, which produces spores, etc, and knowing the plant groups is critical.

Thanks for the info

I just realized how difficult getting an 800 on this is. only 2 wrong? wow

is the curve seriously that harsh? only 2? i am assuming at least 4 to 5…

does anyone have any idea about the curve for chemistry?

Yes only 2

I think Chem is -2 too (well u can get -3 raw score) for an 800

Also, for bio, should I memorize all the different types of hormones (i.e. parathormone, calcitonin)

Memorize the phyla, hormones, all the organ systems. Read through the PR book, that’s very helpful. Read through the Barron’s book if you have time; it covers everything in extensive detail (a lot of which is not even on the test), but it will give you a better idea of the concepts.

I have Barrons and PR (and cliffs AP + AP Bio Crash Course by REA)

I’ve been reading through Barrons and there are a lot of details (specific hormones for instance). It’s just that I’m not sure what is superfluous in Barrons and what is really necessary.

But yes, I will take your advice and memorize all the hormones, phyla, and organ systems.

Do you think I have to know specific parts of the eye and year? What about identifying random parts of grasshoppers and other animals?

There’s nothing about the eye and the ear on it. Just use PR’s organ systems chapter for that, it’s all that’s covered. I don’t think you have to know anything about specific animals, but you should know stuff like Malphigian Tubules for arthropods, metanephridia for annelids (I think, I already took the test!)
