Current or Former Blinn TEAM members: Any recommendations regarding courses to take at Blinn or TAMU the first year on the Blinn TEAM?

It depends…what’s your intended future major? My one regret was not taking all the science courses I needed to be a BIMS major, therefore I’m stuck taking extra courses for the summer in order to get into my major.

Biomedical Science with the goal of applying to vet school. Sounds like completing the science courses like biology/chemistry and math courses at Blinn is the best option.

In case you’re curious, this is what my course load looked like for my first Blinn TEAM year:

Fall 2010 A&M Courses:
GEOG 202 (3 hours, humanities and internal + cultural diversity credit)
KINE 198 (1 hour, kinesiology credit…I took Yoga haha)

Fall 2010 Blinn Courses:
GOVT 2306 (POLS 207 at A&M) (3 hours, required by state to take)
ARTS 1303 (ARTS 149 at A&M) (3 hours, BUT take ARTS 1304/150 if you can/want because it counts as Humanities, Visual and Performing Arts, AND International and Cultural Diversity…which means it was kind of a waste that I took Geography at A&M. Geography is the default class that your Blinn TEAM advisors put you in. Change that lol.)
SPCH 1315 (COMM 203 at A&M) (3 hour credit for Communication credits)

2011 Spring A&M Courses
Math 131 (3 hours, Math credit AND required by BIMS)

2011 Spring Blinn Courses
Biol 1406 (Biol 111 at A&M) (4 hours, science credit AND required by BIMS)
Hist 1302 (Hist 106 at A&M) (3 hours, required by state)
Engl 1301 (Engl 104 at A&M) (3 hours, required by state)

OKAY now I shall tell you what I wish I had taken instead haha (I hope this doesn’t confuse you)
Fall 2010 A&M Courses:
ARTS 150 (3 hrs)
KINE 198 (1 hr)

Fall 2010 Blinn Courses:
BIOL 1406 (Biol 111) (4 hrs)
CHEM 1411 (Chem 101) (4 hrs)
PHYS 1401 (Phys 201) (4 hrs)
(I’ll explain the reason for the huge load of science courses at the end of this post)

Spring 2011 A&M Courses
MATH 131 (3 hrs)

Spring 2011 Blinn Courses
BIOL 1407 (4 hrs)
CHEM 1412 (4 hrs)
PHYS 1402 (4 hrs)

All those science courses are necessary if you want to be a BIMS major. They are kind of strict about getting in, so you have to have ALL of you basic biology, chemistry, physics, organic chemistry, and calculus courses (total of 35 hours) finished BEFORE you reach 75 hours. As you can see, I only took 13 hours each semester because 1) I didn’t know about all the mandatory science courses…I was too focused on just getting general basic courses out of the way and 2) I knew about the 75 credit hour rule. You really don’t want to go over. Here’s a link to explain it all: [url=http://vetmed.tamu.edu/bims/current/bims-alert]BIMS Alert - Texas A&M Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences/url.

Hope this helped!

Thanks!!! This is helpful. What did you think of BIO 1406? Did you find it to be difficult?

Biol 1406 is just like any biology course: lots and lots of memorization. I made an A though, BUT you have to actually read the book, not just listen to the professor’s lectures haha. And takes notes from your book while you’re reading it, it helps for memorizing (: Let me know if you want to know anything else!

Thanks! You have been very helpful!!! We will keep in touch. Thanks again for your assistance.
