What classes are you guys taking at Blinn? (: Just curious.

I'm taking Speech, Government (because the AP exam only covers 3 out of the 6 hours), Art History, and Geology. Yup, I'm taking the easy way into my first semester lol. And Calculus at A&M if I didn't do well on my AP exam, but idk. I think I'll have a total of 16 hours at both Blinn and A&M, not too bad right? So yeah, you guys?

Your Blinn T schedule sounds pretty good for the first semester. My daughter just finished her freshman year on Blinn TEAM, and was accepted into A&M a few weeks ago. If transferring after one year is your goal, just make sure you have a good balance of classes that you are good in and feel sure you can make an A, as well as ones that you want to get out of the way before you get to A&M. She also took 16 hours first semester, including one math and one lab science, classes that she did NOT want to take at A&M. She balanced them with history and speech. At A&M, both semesters she took classes that she knew wouldn’t be too difficult for her, so she now has a 4.0 GPA starting her sophomore year. Spring semester she took her other lab science, so has both behind her thankfully (she is an English major.) You must be pretty good in math, if you think you might have placed out from your AP exam, but if it is 142 that you are thinking of taking for your A&M class, just check around and you will find out that it is a very difficult course. I know of lots of kids who are really “good” in math, and came from very strong high schools, and they had trouble with it. It’s one of the courses that the tutoring companies make lots of money off of! Anyway, good luck on Blinn TEAM. Take advantage of the small classes, which you won’t get at A&M for a while. It ended up being a great year for my daughter academically, and lots cheaper, too.

Oh, were Blinn courses difficult at all for her or did she have a perfect 4.0 at both campuses? I don’t expect Blinn to be that difficult, but I shouldn’t underestimate anything :X And is Math 142 PreCal? I don’t remember…I was planning on taking Math 151 if I didnt do well on my AP exam because I remember most of my basic Calculus material, but I guess I should ask about that at the NSC. And thank you on the insight! (:

She had a little over a 3.5 at Blinn. Math and science are just not her “thing” so she made a B in those courses, A in everything else. Glad to get them out of the way at Blinn! She came from a highly competitive high school, taking AP courses that were actually taught as such, so yes, the other classes were pretty easy for her. (However, she did have classmates from less competitive schools that struggled and did not do very well.) Blinn professors take attendance, so she always went to class, got to know her profs, and spent an adequate amount of time studying, with the goal of getting into A&M in one year. Math 142 is Business Calculus, for non-science majors I think, which she thought was difficult enough at Blinn. LOTS of A&M kids in the class as well, to avoid having it count against their GPA. Sounds like you must be in engineering or a science related major if you are looking at 151. You’ll probably do fine then, if that’s one of your strengths.

I know i’m totally late…
but have you already registered for your class at A&M?
& if not, do you know when we do?

sadiemay2010- If you go on howdy.tamu.edu and sign in under records, you should see a link that says “My Schedule.” An A&M advisor should have automatically signed you up for Geography, but you don’t have to take it. You can only change classes if you go to a Blinn Advising Day (but they’re all full now…) or during the NSC in August. Hope this helps (:
