Blips 2011

This is ridiculous, how am I supposed to plan for anything else?

hahah acceptances came out today. any luck, anyone?

I still haven’t gotten anything. =[ So sad, since BLIPS would have been awesome to get into…

Hi Edward. LOL

wait do you guys know anyone who has gotten in yet?

Not yet.

Where does it say that May 18th is the deadline? I don’t remember reading that.

oh sorry! I’d meant May 31st. but it seems weird that no one has gotten anything yet

i got in on the 19th. that’s when they sent my acceptance!

@Ehwuhgong
hi,
what did they write to you?which department did you apply and which choice did you get into ( i mean 1st 2nd or 3rd) ? are you applying for housing?

ur allowed to apply for housing now?

uhm, i live like 4 miles away from the lab. there’s no housing anyway, ur sposed to commute every day. did you get in too ifeelyou989? i’m doing fixed-point precision parallel algorithms in the earth science field, modeling liquid behavior in porous materials. i applied for computer science first, electrical engineering second, and earth science third, but i guess they gave me applications of computer science in earth science.

i did not get in…got a rejection letter…probably because i live far out or jut not good enough…i had 7 of my friends going there in the last couple of years…heard …this is the best government research faculty. they have better standards than JPL, which is amazing…congratulation Ehwuhgong…do you go to berkeley high ?..and good luck with parallel algorithms…modeling liquid behavior…will most definitely be interesting and challenging…

has anyone else gotten anything yet?

Do they email you? What email do they use? I hope I didn’t delete it on accident…

yes, they email you on whatever email you provided them with in your application. I called them yesterday because I needed to either accept or deny another internship i got & they said that whenever a professor or mentor selects you, they email you anytime until May 31

So how do people get rejection emails early then?

Personally I THINK it works something like this:

all of the applications are received. the review board goes through them and makes the first round of “cuts,” then sends out rejection emails. the remaining applications get sent to the people looking for student interns. they’re given a deadline (which is next week) to make decisions, and just have until that deadline to choose.

after the deadline, i think, everyone who didn’t get selected is sent a rejection letter.
obviously this is all speculation, but whatever. that’s why so many people haven’t received anything yet though, i think.

Well azen186, what you said seems plausible, but since my odds seem slim if it is, I hope you’re wrong.

Either way, hurry the **** up potential mentor.

4 days left. maybe all the decisions were already made, who knows :
only 30 people chosen, i can’t believe this x.x

im hoping that my professor has just been to lazy to call me
