Blips 2011

lmao.

well, it’s memorial day weekend. i wonder how many mentors are going to send anything out. just sayin’

They don’t appear to make decisions based on how far away you live.
Take a look: [BLIPS Application Review Rubric](http://csee.lbl.gov/assets/docs/BLIPS_Application_Review_Rubric.pdf) view online

I got a reply from an @lbl.gov email address, the BLIPS program manager. My mentor was cc’d in the email, and she replied to me within a few hours of that BLIPS email. I heard that they send you a rejection email as well, so if you don’t get an email at all by the 31st, I don’t know what to say…

Besides the prerequisites for the program (Bay Area junior, etc.), here’s the only superficial criteria I could find:

But I’m not from one of those school districts, and I got in.

Well, the last day to receive an offer is the day after, so keep your fingers crossed!

@studyingthere

congrats man. Altough I am rejected i am still curious in what field did you get in.

wow **** this can they just tell us already. honestly we finished the application 2 months ago and these guys decide now to start evaluating. thats some BS

Still no email yet?

nope, nothing…

Anyone else impulsively refreshing their email?

if we don’t get a response by today does that mean we were rejected? Also, how do substitutes work for this program in case someone that got accepted doesn’t want to do it?

@badass: yeah, i would assume so. :

i have no idea how substitutes work, but i know that they DO exist (some people i knew got in because of that)

new message!..damn it, just spam…

dammit i cant believe this. you would think that a top notch government facility wouldn’t put us through all this bs, and have some sense of class.

Just called them. They will send out rejection emails too, so you’ll get an email regardless of acceptance or not.

how much longer do we have to wait? does this man we have been rejected if still no email have been received?

Note to next year’s applicants to BLIPS: Make sure you apply to multiple programs that notify you of your application status in March or April. May 31 is by far the latest notification date I’ve seen. I’m going to SIMR this summer, but I still don’t think it’s right for BLIPS to do this to its applicants. Some people have to sacrifice other programs for this, only to find out at the last minute that they didn’t get in.

Regardless, a backup is a must.

Well while we’re on the subject teriyarki, let’s talk emergency backups.

For (what seems to be the majority of us in this thread) those who will not make it in to BLIPS and like me have no contingency plan, what are some last minute scholarly opportunities for the summer?

At this point I’d look to classes at a community college, but I don’t even know if they’re open for registration this late.

does anyone know when we can expect to get rejection letters by?

wow it’s past 9 and still nothing :

I would say taking useful classes (Eg. higher level mathematics) that would potentially earn college credit would be a good idea, if registration allows. In California one can take classes at UC or nearby community colleges, depending on one’s needs/preferences.

For those who like math, programs such as PROMYS had a late deadline, but I just realized upon looking at their website that you had until May 31st :(

Well ****, what a terrible deadline.

Midnight, no email. Wat do.
