My sibling is actually an 11th grader at Peddie, so maybe I have some insight. There aren’t too many new 11th graders: I know of probably 5 or so. A couple of them are for sports, of course. I don’t think it’s too hard to integrate in…I don’t actually know, but it seems that, especially in the dorms, you’ll get along just fine :)

@helloel- No, I’m using Peddie’s application (I don’t know much about the SSAT app). What other schools are you applying to?

@laughalittle- How hard was the adjustment to the work load? What are the Family Style dinners like? One of the reasons I’m applying to Peddie is because it seems that there is a strong emphasis on community, which is one of the most important parts in a school for me. I felt that the Family Style dinners foster community. How true is my assumption?

I’m applying to Deerfield, Andover, Taft, Berkshire, and maybe Middlesex. What about you?

I’m applying to Andover (and some day schools).

I didn’t even think about bs as a viable option for high school until November, didn’t get permission from my parents to apply until Thanksgiving, and didn’t get them fully on board with this until yesterday (no joke). So I only had the time to choose two schools. However, if I had the opportunity to actually choose more schools, I would have applied to Hotchkiss, Deerfield, and Hill.

I am only applying to the Hill because I would be a day student and a relative goes there. Anyway the place surrounding it (Pottstown) sucks REALLY BAD. It’s probably the only “urban” boarding school lol

My friend lives around there, which is how I found out about Hill. She’s also applying there as a day student, but then I wondered how she’d feel if I were to go to school with her (though I’d be a border), which was one of the reasons I decided not to apply there (there were other reasons).

Yeah I started the process late too! The only reason I’m applying to more than 3 is because the SSAT common app makes things so much easier and all the other schools that I decided to apply to much later(and still deciding) accept the SSAT app, so I can work on it and send it to whomever when I decide. I’m pretty sure my list is final though.

I wish I had known about the common app! I would’ve been able to choose so many more schools! But I have already given my teachers the rec forms, so I can’t do anything about it now. :(

Just a note to ALittleButterfly I think you’d be able to apply to at least one more school as Andover, Hotchkiss, and Deerfield all use the Gateway to Prep Schools application, so it’s actually quite easy to finish their applications as they are all on the computer and have the same candidate profile and recommendations, just different essays. This is just a thought so you’d have more of an option of schools. If you work hard, you could finish your apps in a week and then focus on SSAT, which I presume you’re taking in January. If, for some reason, you already took them I think you’ll have enough time to do all the applications you want. Just trying to keep the options open and I wish you luck in your BS process :)

how are you guys coming along on the process - essays, interviews and all? i’m applying to andover, choate and hotchkiss :)

Hey Blehjoints Im applying to Andover, Choate, and Hotchkiss as well and NMH! I’m almost done with my essays–I’m just revising now. For me, the interviews were a great time and I got to talk to the Andover AO for 45 minutes which was super cool! The interviewers all seem to have such a passion for their school which is great. Hows your app going? Oh and did you find the Choate essay hard to answer?

yeah i found the choate ones the hardest! especially the short answers / the book one. same just revising now / cutting down to fit the word limit the interviews were really cool as well! i had off campus interviews with alumni - andover one lasted slightly more than an hour (not sure) and the interviewer was really nice. currently also fixing up an art portfolio for submission and settling the last bit of recs :)

@TheatreGeek- You’re right. Technically, I could manage to add one more school, but upon looking at Gateway to Prep Schools, it doesn’t seem to let you add another school after you’ve submitted your Candidate Profile to one school (which makes no sense, so I must be doing something wrong). However, the real problem is I haven’t interviewed at any of the schools yet (like I said earlier, I am way behind), so I’ll be missing school for that. And since I have already absent a lot so far this year, I cannot afford to miss more school (and I wanted to assume that I may miss up to 4 days of school for revisits). So, unfortunately, I cannot apply to anymore schools. But I really do appreciate the suggestion because I never even considered the option you gave me. :)

Ahh very cool, I found the trait one the hardest, I actually really enjoyed the book one because I’m writing a book. I’m really getting into the BS spirit, now just have to wait until March 10! That’s cool your an arts student–maybe we’ll see each other at the PMAC in the future!

@ALittleButterfly Not trying to push you, but you actually can add a new school. They have directions on the website. I did it and it was fine. You can probably have phone interviews or Skype interviews so you wont have to miss school. About revisit days, I wouldn’t worry about those yet–just try to get the app in. You might not get accepted to the school(s) that you apply for. I think you should sleep on the prospect of applying to more schools because there are many more benefits. I do understand what you’re saying, just wanted to give you some options so you have more of a chance even though I’m sure you’ll do fine! Good luck :)

You weren’t pushing me at all! I think you’re right, I should sleep on it. I probably could use another school just to give me more of a chance (which is exactly what you said).

@helloel: THANK YOU for realizing the emphasis on community. I think it’s one of Peddie’s distinguishing characteristics: the community there is quite tight. If that’s important to you in a school, I think Peddie should be at the top of your list. You are absolutely correct that community is a top priority, and yes, Family Style does foster community!

@ALittleButterfly Okay good, I didn’t want to seem pushy. And yes, the more chances the better because once you fall in love with BS you’ll absolutely want to go.

@TheatreGeek - haha it’s so cool that we’re applying to nearly the same schools (except for NMH for you!) yeah the trait one was pretty hard too, but it was fun to write. oh awesome that you’re writing a book - did you participate in this year’s nanowrimo? haha yeah the arts are just amazing <3 which grade are you applying for?

@blehjoints No about the contest (I actually had to look up what you were talking about–awk), I just started writing my story. It’s about faeries (seemingly), but really about war, politics, friendship, and destiny. Oh and I’m applying for 9th you? Oh and what trait did you write about? (If you don’t mind sharing, if not it’s fine :)
