Thanks. Would sending in my portfolio be unreasonable?

Ok, so I’m guessing this is around the time when new applicants begin to start thinking about the SSAT. Before anyone takes it and begins stressing, I just wanted to say that the SSAT will NOT make or break you! Broken down, my 94% overall was composed of 78, 78, and 99. I was worried that my weak math and reading scores would be my downfall, but everything turned out just fine! So study hard, but don’t freak out. (:

Thanks cassat

The way I view the SSAT is that its one of the parts of the prep school admissions process you can control. You can’t control your parents financial situation, your race, your geographic location, or the strength of your fellow applicants. BUT you can control how well you do on the SSAT. So, you should make sure its as good as possible. I’m not saying that you can’t get in with a low score;I’ve seen plenty of CC get in with low SSAT scores. But, you should do your best to have the highest score possible.

@rizzledrizzle,
Sending in a portfolio is a great idea. Definitely send in a portfolio.

Great point ifax.

Do you think starting the application process in early august would be ok? I want to go to camp before I start requesting info, but I’m nervous I may be behind and won’t get good interview slots…

…I never realized how big the Princeton Review Book would be until I got it…

^LOVE. I have 5 prep books and they take up like 2 feet of my bookshelf xD

@Ehphant - I began the process in late September. You’ll be fine!

How many of you guys will be juniors for Fall of 2012?

@franzferdinand unrelated, but ILOVEFRANZFERDINAND!!! lol, but I’ll be a soph…

hey everyone, I’m applying to taft this year as a sophomore. does anybody know what taft looks for most in an applicant?

You never really know what ANY school is looking for most in an applicant. There could be a year in which their best soccer players graduate so they are looking to find some more…or they may be lookking for people that are very good at art. But what all schools have in common is there desire for well rounded students that WANT to learn and would benefit from the boarding school experience.
So just do the best that you can do. :)

You must be a soccer player, @deerbri. Seems you know that 2/3rds of DA boys varsity graduated last Spring, and this year was an opportune year for travel/premiere level boys to apply.
Yup, each school’s needs differ year to year.

Does taft really have a 9% acceptance rate?

I don’t think so… I’m not even sure if Andover and Exeter are in the one digit range…

@alex
I really didn’t know that! I just picked the first thing that came to mind…or maybe it was my subconscious?
Are you attending Deerfield?
And yes, each school’s needs differ from year to year if that hasn’t been established enough.
@rizzle Deerfield’s acceptance rate is 13.5% and I think that they have the lowest, the second lowest being 14%(Andover, Exeter, etc)
But those percentages will be getting increasingly low…maybe even down to about 9% in a few years

That stinks

haha this thread reminds me of ours, way back when in 2009/2010. Good Luck guys! If you have any Groton questions feel free to PM me.

Hey guys, I see that many of you guys are interested in applying to Deerfield, so I might as well answer some questions as well. I’m an incoming freshman going to Deerfield this september, so I might not know the campus well, but I am familiar with the application process!
