Oh yeah I forgot to mention if you guys have any questions, feel free to PM me!

@rizzledrizzle,
Be happy you’re applying now while most acceptance rates are in the double digits. Also, keep in mind that schools have different acceptance rates for ninth graders, financial aid kids, etc. I think Deerfield’s ninth grade acceptance rate is 9%. Not even gonna think about the FA acceptance rate.

It’s becoming freakishly scary… Good thing I’m not applying to Deerfield… Probably the most competitive school I’m probably going to apply to is Peddie…

@ifax108, do you know Deerfield’s acceptance rates for 10th graders?

@rizzle
How many schools are you applying to?
@topsecret If I remember correctly (a friend of mine entered DA as a sophomore) they said that the acceptance rate was about 9% to 10% (that was 2 years ago)
so it could be lower…

I know this is a silly question but since I’m international, do I have to pay for the delivery fee when I request a viewbook?

No. I wasn’t charged. It just had a number on the front in pink ink for me. My mom told me that was the amount the school had to pay for shipping that to me.

@topsecret,
No, but I think it’s slightly higher. By that I mean it’s in the double digits. I’d guess around maybe 15%? I’m not sure though.

I wonder why the acceptance rates for sophs is higher. I mean, most schools take in more freshmen than sophomores, so applying as a soph should be less competitive right?

I wouldn’t worry about differences in acceptance rates between 9th and 10 grade, although you may want to find out whether schools were overenrolled for your gender the prior year. This situation would shrink the number of available spots 10th grade spots, but it’s highly specific to each school and each year.

There are more applicants for frosh year than soph. It’s a natural transition from the typical middle school to high school. However, it doesn’t mean it’s less competitive simply because of the lower number of applicants.

The acceptance rates that they post are just talking about the school in general – it’s different for every grade. But the difference isn’t that big. Less than a 10% difference probably.

Hey guys I’m going to be applying to and am probably going to apply to thacher, choate, deerfield, hotchkiss, peddie, and I’m choosing between millbrook or stevenson for my last one since I can only apply to 6 schools. Alot of people seem to be applying to stevenson and I’ve heard some bad things about millbrook so I’ll probably apply to stevenson in the end.

Stevenson? I don’t see it mentioned a lot…huh. I’m deciding on Stevenson maybe… I was for sure going to apply at the beginning but I’m not sure. It’s close to home…

oh I’ve noticed a few posts but compared to other hidden boarding schools it seems like its mentioned more but I guess I kinda exagerated when I said a lot of people I tend to do that alot. now I’m waiting for the viewbook but I’m in the opposite situation because it’s really far away from where I live and that’s one of the things I like about it since you live close by can you tell me how california is? like what the people are like and stuff

I don’t see why everyone wants to go there – but that might be because I live in it so… I’m not into the southern californian scene but I live near the Capitol-San Francisco area. What in particular do you want to know?

Reread your post. The people… I guess they’re pretty chill and laid back. According to my mom it’s not like Asia where they ‘flip you off for trying to cross the street when they’re trying to drive.’ But I guess people in her part of Asia aren’t very patient lol. But since Stevenson is in Monterey and I go down their quite a lot for breaks I can provide information.

It’s busy. Lots of street stores and nothing short of a small town secluded area for Stevenson. I would presume that people going to Stevenson are from the west coast as vice versa with NE boarding schools but I’m sure they accept a lot of east coast folks. Diversity. Overall – just… Really friendly people in this area. Really. Might differ in more of a southern Californian region where where everyone surfs and stuff but great place to live.

Question for everyone: are you going to see the last HP?

EDIT: Oh and I totally get about you wanting to go to Stevenson because it’s away from home. That’s the same with me (:

I just got back from seeing it!!! :D

Agh! Lucky ducky! On a scale of 1 - 100 how good was it? Was it the best?

AHHHH! I love HP but this movie kinda changed up the way that the last battle takes place…so I give it a 98:) I can’t pick my favorite!!! I LOVE THEM ALL. But I do think that the directors and such did a really great job with part 1 and part 2 of HP7!
It’s just sad to think that it’s over…I hope future generations enjoy it as much as I did…
