My kids don't play Hockey, but I've become a big fan this year. I thought a BS Hockey Thread for Parents and Students would be a lot of fun. My kids attend every home game (the home rinks everywhere are on fire!) and I find myself checking scoreboards everyday and asking my kids for updates. BS Hockey adds so much excitement to a campus during the dark winter months. I salute all the Hockey Parents out there: Your kids are absolutely amazing!

Please feel free to post whatever you want or ask questions about programs. If you want to post recent scores or updates- that's fine, too!

I am on my way to the airport to visit my daughter so I can attend 2 (TWO!) hockey games this weekend. I am looking forward to it. This is one of the biggest things I miss with her being away – seeing her play sports and watching her get better.

Maybe there will also be a boys game to watch – would love to see that. Her school has fun with the hockey games… last big boys game they sent a message around asking everyone to come. Some boys made HUGE photo-head-on-a-stick of the captains to wave in the stands… too funny. The girls are a bit of a “poor relation” but even they get a number of kids coming to watch. It is a nice diversion in the cold NE winter.

London- It’s hard not to get swept up in all the excitement! My kids have sent short videos of spectacular goals and you can hear the crowd just go wild. I’ve also received some fun fan pics and you can definitely see the school spirit! The rivalries are intense!!! It’s a lot of fun, but when you look at the team schedules and all the travel- you really have to hand it to these kids. They’re amazing!!

Hope you have a great time and Londonkid’s team wins!

**If anyone wants to ask questions about a program, please feel free. I can’t answer, but I’m sure someone else can.

Thanks for the recognition PhotographerMom. My daughter is a goalie and she applied to 5 “hidden gems” for 2014/2015. She’s currently in 8th grade. We met with coaches (for lacrosse too) and they have been in touch since the interviews. I am hoping she is accepted somewhere and we get the FA we need. She LOVES playing hockey and it has been her dream to attend BS.

When I was a kid, schools would hand out brooms and send everyone to the rink or a frozen pond. It was so much fun- Students playing against faculty or Class v Class. I love that many schools still have this tradition. K2 sent me a fan pic recently and his face was painted like Braveheart. Hope he was able to wash that off… Still, I love printing the photos and putting them in a box along with all the other stuff I’ve collected over the years. When my kids graduate, they’ll have a box of BS memories. It’s a lot of fun because they don’t know I’m doing it.

Reading this thread makes me realize how much I miss the game. S is too far away to drop in to see any of his games. After HS he won’t play at the level he plays now and I will miss his final moments on the ice.
I dreaded the 4am wake ups for early ice time and endless travel to sit in a cold rink drinking bad coffee. I wish I could have those days back now. I would certainly complain less even putting up with the smelly hockey bag that was a fixture in the back of the SUV for so long.

Haha, all the craziness that comes with a kid playing hockey! I saw a recent tweet that said “hockey is a lifestyle…” Its so true! The endless driving, time spent at rinks, ect. I can say that is has taught my daughter great time-management skills; she got stuck with a late practice this year, and doesn’t get in until 10 p.m., has to shower, then gets up at 6:20 for school the next day.

Best advice we read on CC was to thoroughly explore schools web site. We learned that St. Grottlesex was playing at Frozen Fenway. We were excited just to see hockey at Fenway, but it also gave us a great topic to bring up to show interest in the school during interviews. Game day was frigid but a great experience. We watched all or part of three ISL games, witnessing the students and spirit of 6 different boarding schools and were able to sit the in section of first choice school. It was also interesting to watch students do things discussed here on CC. Also if your kids go to St Grottlesex and went to Frozen Fenway I would say most were not dressed warm enough for that day.

I’m a first year hockey mom so I missed the 4 am fun - but not the stinky bag as Chimneykid had an equally sweaty sport prior to hockey. It was a great first year!
