Son received a text from University.

Yes, as a precaution, all the kids got texts.

I’d be surprised to find out that this is more than a prank or similar.

*University of Alabama officials are investigating an unverified report of a bomb threat on campus this afternoon. Search teams are currently on campus and people are requested to report any suspicious packages or unusual situations to UAPD at 205-348-5454.

*

the texts seemed to be very late in going out. The FB page had the announcement long before the texts went out.

THat said, many on the FB site were not properly signed up for the emergency texts either. So make sure you and your students are signed up.

Just received a phone call from UA (for some reason I seem to get what should be a student phone call?)… anyway they said that the search found no bomb or suspicious package, but that as a precaution Students and staff should remain cautious and stay away from several buildings on campus…Biology, the Ferg, and several others (didn’t write them down) until 6 pm. It also said that students and staff could use the Rec facility from the 5 to 6 pm hour. DD has been at the sorority house all after noon studying and did not seem overly concerned.

this posted on FB site:

Tide Text Alerts

I texted my S after I had seen it on my fb & twitter via Crimson White. They said they emailed, which is too slow for emergencies imo. S hadn’t gotten anything at that point. I will send him the link to sign up for text alerts as it sounds like he doesn’t have it.

My son whose dorm was named in the threat received only an email which he had not checked. A text from his sister and a call from me at 5 pm were the only notifications he had. About 10 minutes after we spoke, his dorm was evacuated (about 5:15). Sounds like our S is not signed up for the text alerts, either, although I thought we were!

Excuse me. Can anyone I teach me how to post a new question on my own on this website? Thank You very very much!!

Go to main University of Alabama page…Scroll down to the part of the page with the threads…Top left there is a button title “New Thread”…select button and go! Roll Tide and welcome!

Mikes, I tried to explain in the post above your last post.

My son just called and said they gave the “all clear” over the PA system.

My son was in Nott Hall and saw bomb-sniffing dogs.

Yes, all clear.

Mom of Four…my son met your D tonight.

Which FB page was the notification on today?

I am not sure if I can post a link to Facebook or not. (Don’t want to break forum rules.) Go to Facebook and search “University of Alabama”. It is the University’s main page.

Thanks Crimson217. I see it now that I search for it. Missed it in the news feed Monday but hope that the text updates we are now signed up for will work.
