I know you can defer housing and tuition with Bright Futures but what about books? I read somewhere that you can request to defer paying for books while waiting for the Bright Futures disbursement. But when I go to the UF Bookstore website I can't find anything that explains how to do that.

Also, on a different note, I need to replace my old PC laptop before school starts this fall, would a Mac notebook be a better choice than a PC? I would like to hear from anybody that has used both and can compare pros and cons.

If you have bright futures, you will get some sort of email pretty soon that says you can defer your books. This ONLY works at the UF bookstore. However, if you want to shop elsewhere (OBT, FLbookstore, etc) for better prices on used books, usually they do deferment too, they just require you to give them your debit card number and the deferment is taken out of your bank account later.

So we've already done the UF deferment, but would it be better to use FL Book Store or some place else for better deals? I want used books.

I bought a Macbook. It's nice for sure, but definitely a huge price jump from a Windows. With this computer, I'm officially a switcher. I can't tell you advantages/disadvantages really as I've not used it on campus. I think most will say it's down to personal preference, but send your college/major an E-mail.

My personally opinion is : If you want to have a cool looking laptop, and don't care much about software compatibility or price then go for a Macbook.

Pros about Macbook is that there aren't that many viruses right now targeting Mac OS System compared to Windows. So it is more secured in that sense. Plus, a Macbook looks really cool .. and fast .. as I just used it recently from my uncle.

The cons about Macbook is its software compatibility , since almost all softwares out there are made for Windows. You can be sure that almost (99.9%) of any software in the market now would work for a PC.

I think I like Windows better since I've used it for almost all my life .. and I know how to do a lot of things with it.. so if there's any problem going on with my computer, i would know how to fix it... and plus, i wouldn't have to worry about software compatibility.

I think Apple Macbook are just too expensive for its features.

Software compatibility? I've yet to run into any problems. If you want games or something like that, yes, your options are more limited. Generally though, for productivity, etc., you can find plenty for Mac. There are even plenty of games for Mac, just maybe not the ones that require the BEST GAME CARD EVA.

It runs well, looks nice, and "everything just works". If you can go play with some, do. Compare for yourself. My favorite concept of the Mac is that everything is made by Apple, so you don't have Microsoft technology on a Toshiba machine, for example. That means everything is made to run perfectly. The Macbook also somehow FEELS a lot more personal with their gimmicky things like "Your Mac was made just for you! =D" Most Mac users are going to tell you it's the best purchase they've ever made. I'd need to see how she holds up before I can declare that fully.
