Books available Sept. 1st!

this is just a reminder to all new students just in case they didnt know, thank you to you upperclassmen/alumni who informed me of this. the books you will need for your class will be available tomorrow, you can check what books you need on the zot portal by following these instructions directly from user xxsteelxx:

visit Zot Portal (<a href="https://portal.uci.edu/uPortal/render.userLayoutRootNode.uP%5B/url%5D">https://portal.uci.edu/uPortal/render.userLayoutRootNode.uP</a>)
login
go to the Academics tab on the top
Academics > My Courses > Books
There you will see exactly what books you will need.

buy books early to avoid lines when classes start. it's likely we will be getting work from the books the first day.

the uci bookstore is probably more expensive, here are some alternative websites that i've come across:
amazon.com
half.com
ebay.com
chegg.com
[url=<a href="http://www.slugbooks.com/UCI/UCI-Home.html%5DSlugBooks">http://www.slugbooks.com/UCI/UCI-Home.html]SlugBooks</a> - UC Irvine Textbook Price Comparisons/url

if you have any other sites for books please add them as well.

Haha… good to know.

Thanks for the info.

Haha, bookstore the first week is always bad. It’s no fun when you just want a notebook. And even just the crowd around the already thin isles of textbooks when you just want to copy down the ISBN. Oh, note that the bookstore online doesn’t give you ISBN (or edition sometimes?). Check the class websites for those details on books.

I highly recommend the facebook group Sell Textbooks Directly (UCI) <a href=“Facebook Public Group | Facebook”>Facebook Public Group | Facebook;
It’s cash only though, but you can sell for more and buy your books for cheaper (and you don’t have to wait for shipping).

you can also try borders.com for regular novel books and then just look up any coupons online. Sometimes you can get a better deal than amazon.
also, don’t forget the free 2-day shipping from [Amazon Student](http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info) for a year

thanks for the information! it’ll be super duper helpful!

There actually is or was a way to get the ISBN from the online site. Something about adding the book to your cart, and then I forgot how it was done, but it was doable last year.

so whats the deal with these custom edition books and what not-do I have to get them or…?
and are they any different from the regular books?

custom versions are usually just the regular textbook with chapters excluded that won’t be covered in class,

it might be worth it to buy the real whole text based on the price of the custom edition when you take into account how much you can sell it for at semesters end

how do you figure out the edition number? if the class websites are not on the EEE?

well surprisingly enough-the uci bookstore seems to have the cheapest price so far, and ive checked pretty much every website

This year they actually gave us the ISBN number so no having to figure that out anymore. You can just do an internet search using this number to see if you can find cheaper books elsewhere. So far the UCI bookstore prices aren’t that bad if you factor in the cost of shipping buying it online.

the bookstore does have cheaper prices because its their edition where the books have shorter pages than the original. So bookstore compare to online prices…boostore is cheaper. BUT UCI buying from uci students cost much more cheaper than the bookstore.
This might be useful [Welcome to Facebook](<a href=“Facebook - log in or sign up”>Facebook - log in or sign up)

^wait I didnt get the last part.
and also i found out that all of UCI’s books are paperbacks and laminated-perhaps another reason for their cheap prices.

Are all the books up or will more be posted?
There are only books for my hum core class…it doesn’t say anything for psych.

all my class books are up. im going to compare prices now.

Do you recommend buying the “optional” books?
I can’t seem to find PKG-HUMANITIES CORE COURSE READER & BRITTEN WAR REQ CD anywhere else other than the bookstore and I’m not sure I want to pay the bookstore price for it if it’s not going to be used…

Does Writing 39B not require any textbook?

There should be a book for 39B.

On the bookstore site it says:

ANTEATER’S GUIDE TO WRITING & RHETORIC
EASON
ISBN:9780738038056
REQUIRED
This title has already been listed for another course.

CONNECT COMPOSITION PLUS ACCESS CARD
MCGRAW HILL
ISBN:9780077353896
REQUIRED
New $45.00

Pretty much the same thing that’s listed on the 39B site (<a href=“EEE+ Home | UCI”>EEE+ Home | UCI) except on the 39B site you can get the access card thing for $25 instead of $45 from the bookstore.

here is how much money i saved by using ebay for my books:

http://i55.■■■■■■■.com/wl9o5w.jpg

for math 2b i was unable to find the package i needed online so i guess i will have to go to the book store.
there are two choices of what package to buy which one should i buy?
Mathematics 2B (CHOOSE ONE OPTION ONLY!!)
Pkg Calculus 6th 2vol 2ab & 2de/online Sol Man & Tutorials
Stewart
New $111.70
Used $83.80

Pkg Calculus Single Var For 2ab /e Sol Man & Tutorials
Stewart
New $76.65
Used $57.50

as for optional books i only had one for eecs and i decided not to buy it for now, go to class and see if we really need it, then i would buy it.

i see the books, but it’s kind of pointless for me right now because i’m still waiting to add the classes i actually need/want! darn you major restricted classes! haha

The only book in my ZotPortal is the “Anteater’s Guide To Writing & Rhetoric.” Is this the only book I need for fall? Or will professors eventually post more books before school starts?
