Books for the first day of classes...

Is it necessary to have books for the first day of classes? I am a transfer student and last year I waited to buy all of my books until after the first class to see which ones were needed. Should this also be the case at SC?

Also, what if you are thinking about changing a class and just want to go to the first one to see whether you will keep it or not? Should you still pick up the book and just return it when you drop the class? (within the first week)

You don't really need books for the first week. In fact, there are some classes where you don't need to buy your books at all! (see BISC-102, I never opened my book and still got an A in the class)

To answer your question, no you don't need books for the first class and you can definitely just check out a class and not buy any books for it until you've decided that you want to take that class. Even if you do buy your books and realize you don't want to take a specific class, you can always return them for the full amount.
